DHS To Grant Illegal Aliens “Unlawful Presence Waivers”.

DHS To Grant Illegal Aliens “Unlawful Presence Waivers”.(JW).In its quest to implement stealth amnesty, the Obama Administration is working behind the scenes to halt the deportation of certain illegal immigrants by granting them “unlawful presence waivers.”
The new measure would apply to illegal aliens who are relatives of American citizens. Here is how it would work, according to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announcement posted in today’s Federal Register, the daily journal of the U.S. government; the agency will grant “unlawful presence waivers” to illegal aliens who can prove they have a relative that’s a U.S. citizen.
Currently such aliens must return to their native country and request a waiver of inadmissibility in an existing overseas immigrant visa process. In other words, they must enter the U.S. legally as thousands of foreigners do on a yearly basis. Besides the obvious security issues, changing this would be like rewarding bad behavior in a child. It doesn’t make sense.
But the system often causes U.S. citizens to be separated for extended periods from their immediate relatives,” according to the DHS. The proposed changes, first announced in January, will significantly reduce the length of time U.S. citizens are separated from their loved ones while required to remain outside the United States during the current visa processing system.
The administration also claims that relaxing the rule will also “create efficiencies for both the U.S. government and most applicants.” How exactly is not listed in the Federal Register announcement, which gives the public 60 days to comment. That’s only a formality since the DHS has indicated that the change is pretty much a done deal.
This appears to be part of the Obama Administration’s bigger plan to blow off Congress by using its executive powers to grant illegal immigrants backdoor amnesty. The plan has been in the works for years and in 2010 Texas’s largest newspaper published an exposé about a then-secret DHS initiative that systematically cancelled pending deportations. The remarkable program stunned the legal profession and baffled immigration attorneys who said the government bounced their clients’ deportation even when expulsion was virtually guaranteed.Read the full story here

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas threatens int'l complaint if Israel refuses talks.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas threatens int'l complaint if Israel refuses talks.(JPost).If Israel is not prepared to return to the negotiating table, the Palestinian Authority will file a complaint with international bodies, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas declared Monday. "Israel must accept international legitimacy and stop construction in the settlements," Abbas said during a ceremony where he inaugurated a new building for the Palestinian embassy in Cairo. "There are not pre-conditions, but obligations which Israel must fulfill in accordance with international legitimacy. When Israel accepts these two obligations, we will be ready to return to the negotiations." Abbas said that until now there were no signs that Israel was prepared to comply. He said that the Palestinians had agreed to hold indirect talks with Israel, once under the auspices of the Quartet and another under the sponsorship of Jordan, but no progress was achieved. The PA leadership has decided to send a letter to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu holding him responsible for undermining the PA, Abbas added. In this letter, Abbas said, the PA leadership wrote to Netanyahu: "You have made the PA a non-authority. You have taken away from the PA all its commitments and what it was doing and supervising. Now we have been left with nothing."
Abbas said that the letter would be sent to Netanyahu next week.He said that Chief PLO negotiator Saeb Erekat was scheduled to meet Tuesday with one of Netanyahu's aides to discuss the stalled peace process. "After that, we will see what can be done," Abbas continued. "If he [Netanyahu] agrees, we would be ready to resume the talks." But If the Israelis are not ready to return to the negotiations, the PA will file a complaint with international bodies, he cautioned. "This is our right and we will go back to the United Nations." Abbas said that he has chosen both Israel and Hamas as partners. "Hamas are our brothers and the Israelis are our peace partners and we believe in the two-state solution," he stressed. "We want to build a state on the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its capital, next to Israel. We want two states that would live alongside each other in security and stability. But Netanyahu does not want to hear these things He must choose between peace and settlements. If Netanyahu wants and loves peace, he must stop the settlements."Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's spokesman Mark Regev responded by saying that the "fundamental reason" for the impasse in the diplomatic process is "the Palestinian refusal to engage in talks." While Israel has consistently been willing to meet the Palestinians and start talks without preconditions, the Palestinians, Regev said, were "placing multiple preconditions on the table that have prevented that process from moving forward."Hmmmm........It has never been about land.Read the full story here.

Palestinian Husseini family loses Shepherd Hotel court fight

Mohammad Ahmad Hussain, the Grand Mufti of OccupiedJerusalem

Palestinian Husseini family loses Shepherd Hotel court fight.(JPost).The High Court of Justice ruled Monday that a prominent Palestinian family could not claim ownership of a landmark and now derelict building in east Jerusalem - paving the way for a Jewish settlement project. The Husseini family said the Shepherd Hotel, now partially demolished, is a symbol of the Palestinian rights to their land and to east Jerusalem, and criticized the court ruling.
The Shepherd Hotel was built in the 1930s and served as the home of Jerusalem grand mufti Haj Amin Husseini, who fought the British and Zionists. It was declared "absentee property" by Israel after it was captured and annexed to east Jerusalem in 1967. The title was transferred to an Israeli firm, which sold it in 1985 to Irving Moskowitz, a Florida businessman and patron of Jewish settlers. In 2009, the Jerusalem city hall approved a project to replace the building with a block of 20 apartments. Israeli officials said Washington had voiced its opposition to the plan to Israel's ambassador in the United States. "This property, which is legitimately ours, represents the Palestinians' rights to their land and to Jerusalem," Mona Husseini, heir to the property and Husseini's granddaughter, said on Monday. In dismissing the family's case, the court said too much time had passed since Israeli authorities had transferred the property to private developers for a legal challenge to be brought, a lawyer for the petitioners said. The family said it had been unaware at the time that the site had been sold off."The court clearly sided with the other party, and this proves that the Israeli courts have never been fair to Palestinians," said Adnan Husseini, the Palestinian Authority-appointed mayor of Jerusalem and a member of the extended family. The family said, however, they would continue to seek legal action "against the odds."Read the full story here.

7 dead, 3 injured, suspect caught in US Christian school shooting.

7 dead, 3 injured, suspect caught in US Christian school shooting.(Yahoo).OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — A gunman opened fire Monday at a Christian university in California, killing at least seven people, wounding three more and setting off an intense, chaotic manhunt that ended hours later with his capture at a shopping center, authorities said.
The gunfire erupted around midmorning at Oikos University. Heavily armed officers swarmed the school building in a large industrial park near the Oakland airport. For at least an hour after the shooting began, they believed the shooter could still be at the school.
Television footage also showed bloodied victims on stretchers being loaded into ambulances. Several bodies covered in sheets were laid out on a patch of grass at the school.
Police spokeswoman Cynthia Perkins said seven people were dead. She did not release any other details about the victims.
Myung Soon Ma, the school's secretary, said she could not provide any details about what happened at the small private school, which serves the Korean community with courses from theology to Asian medicine.
"I feel really sad, so I cannot talk right now," she said, speaking from her home. "No one can go there because the access is restricted right now."
Police believe the shooter acted alone, though they have not discussed a possible motive. Those connected to the school, including the founder and several students, described the gunman as a former nursing student.
Officer Johnna Watson said the suspect is an Asian male in his 40s and was taken into custody at a shopping center in the neighboring city of Alameda. Watson would not confirm if he was a student.
Watson said most of the wounded or dead were shot inside the building. The industrial park in which the school is located also includes the county food bank and a local Girl Scouts headquarters.
"It's a very fluid situation and an active investigation," Watson said, declining to discuss details of the arrest or a possible motive.
Pastor Jong Kim, who founded the school about 10 years ago, told the Oakland Tribune that the shooter was a nursing student who was no longer enrolled. He did not know if the shooter was expelled or dropped out.Angie Johnson told the San Francisco Chronicle that she saw a young woman leave the building with blood coming from her arm and crying: "I've been shot. I've been shot."
The injured woman said the shooter was a man in her nursing class who got up and shot one person at point-blank range in the chest before spraying the room with bullets, Johnson said.
"She said he looked crazy all the time," she said the victim told her, "but they never knew how far he would go."Read the full story here.

Israel closes PA illegal media network in Jerusalem's Old City.

Israel closes PA illegal media network in Jerusalem's Old City.(HD).Israeli police on Monday closed down a Palestinian media network, comprising an Internet radio station and news service, on its launch day in Jerusalem's Old City, the editor-in-chief told AFP. "Today we were planning to launch Huna al-Quds, an online multimedia network focusing on Jerusalem from our headquarters in Aqbet al-Khaldieh in the Old City," Mohammad Abu Arqub told AFP. "The event was to take place simultaneously in Jerusalem and Ramallah via Skype." The Huna al-Quds network (Arabic for "This is Jerusalem") is a media initiative comprising radio, television and online news, which was put together by Al-Quds University's institute of modern media.
But just minutes before the launch, more than a dozen Israeli police entered the building, locked the office doors and showed an order in Hebrew, signed by the internal security minister, barring the launch event on the grounds that it was a "Palestinian Authority" event. "They cut off the Skype call, asked for IDs and arrested Ali Rweished and Muhannad Izhiman," he said, referring to two officials from Al-Quds University.Police spokeswoman Luba Samri confirmed the incident, saying the network's launch violated a ban on any official Palestinian Authority activity in the city. "Police closed an office in the Old City according to an order signed by the internal security minister over its intention to launch a network under the auspices of the PA, which is against Israeli law," she told AFP. "Two people were arrested -- one of them was released, while the second is still under investigation." In a statement, Al-Quds University said it was "an independent institution, neither administered nor governed by the Palestinian Authority" which, since 1996, had been recognised by Israel as an independent NGO. "The University condemns this action as a violation of principles and agreements which protect free speech, academic freedom, and the freedom of the press," it said, indicating it was the second time in just over a month that Israel had closed down one of its media networks.Read the full story here.

Chutzpah ! Pentagon claims "has no records of Osama bin Laden’s death".

Chutzpah ! Pentagon claims "has no records of Osama bin Laden’s death".(CPO).Obama touts the Navy SEALS’ raid and killing of Osama bin Laden in his hideaway compound in Abbotabad, Pakistan, as one of, if not the greatest, achievements of his administration. Reportedly, the administration even disclosed details of the raid to Hollywood for an upcoming movie, Zero Dark Thirty, directed by Kathryn Bigelow.
The movie is scheduled to be released — SURPRISE! — on October 12, 2012, within a month of the presidential election.
Joseph Straw reports for the N.Y. Daily News, Aug. 11, 2011, that the CIA defended its collaboration with the maker of Zero Dark Thirty. CIA spokesman Preston Golson said that such collaboration with filmmakers has precedent and is part of the CIA’s “public outreach.” Despite the CIA’s insistence, Congressman Peter King (R-Long Island), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, has demanded that the Pentagon and CIA inspectors general investigate whether the agencies breached policy in this case, in particular whether the filmmakers saw classified material or got access to personnel working under cover.
Given that, it is curious, to say the least, that, in response to a Freedom of Information Act request made by the Associated Press, the Pentagon says it has no records — not one photo, not one video, not even an e-mail — of bin Laden’s death?
Richard Lardner reports for the Minneapolis Star Tribune, March 15, 2012:

Government officials have openly discussed details of the mission [to kill Osama bin Laden] in speeches, interviews and television appearances, but the administration won’t disclose records that would confirm their narrative of that fateful night. The Associated Press asked for files about the raid in more than 20 separate [FOIA] requests, mostly submitted the day after bin Laden’s death.
The Pentagon told the AP this month it could not locate any photographs or video taken during the raid or showing bin Laden’s body. It also said it could not find any images of bin Laden’s body on the Navy aircraft carrier where the al-Qaida leader’s body was taken.
The Pentagon said it could not find any death certificate, autopsy report or results of DNA identification tests for bin Laden, or any pre-raid materials discussing how the government planned to dispose of bin Laden’s body if he were killed.
It said it searched files at the Pentagon, U.S. Special Operations Command in Tampa, Fla., and the Navy command in San Diego that controls the USS Carl Vinson, the aircraft carrier used in the mission.
The Defense Department told the AP in late February it could not find any emails about the bin Laden mission or his “Geronimo” code name that were sent or received in the year before the raid by William McRaven, the three-star admiral at the Joint Special Operations Command who organized and oversaw the mission. It also could not find any emails from other senior officers who would have been involved in the mission’s planning.

Note: WantToKnow team member Prof. David Ray Griffin, in his book Osama bin Laden: Dead or Alive?, lays out the extensive evidence that bin laden died in December 2001, and that since that time Pentagon psyops had been keeping him “alive” with fake videos and audiotapes to maintain a crucial pretext for the ever-expanding “war on terror.” Could it be that the Pentagon will produce no records of its purported “death raid” because in fact it will reveal major manipulations involving bin Laden’s death?
On August 6, 2011, three months after the supposed killing of bin Laden, 22 members of the exact same Navy SEALS Team 6 who had conducted the Abbotabad raid all died in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.Dead men don’t tell tales.Read the full story here.

Obama warns 'unelected' Supreme Court against striking down health law.

Obama warns 'unelected' Supreme Court against striking down health law.(Fox).President Obama, employing his strongest language to date on the Supreme Court review of the federal health care overhaul, cautioned the court Monday against overturning the law -- while repeatedly saying he's "confident" it will be upheld. The president spoke at length about the case at a joint press conference with the leaders of Mexico and Canada. The president, adopting what he described as the language of conservatives who fret about judicial activism, questioned how an "unelected group of people" could overturn a law approved by Congress."
I'm confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress," Obama said. The Supreme Court spent three days hearing arguments last week in four separate challenges to the health care law, which stands as the president's signature domestic policy accomplishment. A central challenge was over the individual mandate -- the requirement that Americans buy health insurance. Critics say the mandate is unconstitutional, and that the federal government cannot force people into the insurance marketplace. Obama on Monday said that without such a mandate, the law would not have a mechanism to ensure those with preexisting conditions get health care. "I'm confident that this will be upheld because it should be upheld," Obama said, describing the law as "constitutional." Hmmm........I was warning last week what he would do. Read the full story here.

Mass Exodus of US Oil Refineries - "The Price of Gas will skyrocket" in Obama's second term if reelected.

Mass Exodus of US Oil Refineries - "The Price of Gas will skyrocket" in Obama's second term if reelected.(DocsTalk).This comes from a retired oil executive who spent some 40 years in the industry. The Closures in The U.S. Oil Refinery Industry In The Past 2 Years In 2010, there were 149 operable U.S. refineries with a combined capacity of 17.6 million barrels (2,800,000) per day. Something odd started happening in late 2010-early 2011. The US oil refinery industry quietly announced the closure of numerous US oil refineries. Many are completely unaware the US ships oil overseas to be processed. We do so as we do not have enough refineries to process the vast amounts here, and we are barred from building anymore refineries.
All refineries perform three basic steps: separation, conversion, and treatment. Pretty simple. Several reasons include technical and economic factors as to why we ship it overseas to be processed.
1. The crude petroleum is sold to the highest bidder, NOT the nearest bidder
2. There are different kinds of crude oil, such as sweet/light and dark/heavy. They have different applications and uses.
3. Different kinds of refining processes are needed to make different products from the crude oil. Petroleum is processed to make lots of products other than gasoline, like plastics and asphalt.
4. Politics, unions and the "environmentalists" How many of you are aware Sunoco, Conoco Phillips and The HESS Corp are all closing US oil refineries? Not many, as the media refuses to give this HUGE story coverage. My guess is that if Americans understood the complete truth to how we are being sold out, and enslaved there just might be the much needed revolution to turn this country around. Last September, both Sunoco and Conoco Phillips announced plant closing, effecting thousands of workers. Sunoco announced they are completely getting out of the oil industry. Closing up shop. They are done with the US oil industry. Sunoco is closing it's 2 oil refineries in July 2012 in Philadelphia and Marcus Hook, Pa. Those 2 facilities alone process over 500,000 barrels a day.  Also announced last year, ConocoPhillips announced 2 plant closing for sure in Trainer, PA and Bayway, NJ., the other 3 plants are undecided as of today.
Conoco also announced they were closing their Alaskan refining facility:  Just a week ago, the US 3rd largest oil refinery owned and operated by The HESS Corp just announced it's permanent closure. Costing over 2,000 jobs, and effecting 950 contractors.
Refineries on the East Coast of the US supply 40% of the gasoline sales and 60% of the diesel and other fuel oils. Of that, HALF that comes from the Sunoco and Conoco Phillips plant closures. When Conoco Phillips announced that it was closing the Trainer refinery, Willie Chiang, then ConocoPhillips' Senior Vice President of Refining, Marketing, Transportation and Commercial, noted that their decision to sell, like Sunoco's, was based on unfavorable economics caused by a competitive and difficult market environment characterized by "...product imports, weakness in motor fuel demand, and costly regulatory requirements." They are ALL closing up shop due to government regulations, union demands and excessive operating costs brought on by the Government regulations. Then you have the unions, led by Barry's buddy Leo Gerard saying they will close ALL US oil refineries starting from the east coast to west coast today.
The unions are shutting down ports, rail and air across the pond right now......the SAME EXACT thing they plan on doing here. When the ships stop importing, the rails and air stop much is everything you consume gonna cost? Remember...we are a CONSUMING country, no longer a producing one.
The excessive and costly government regulations on the US oil refinery market has forced companies to re-evaluate the cost of doing business in the US .. Why have operations in the US where you bleed money via regulations and demands, when you can have refineries built in Columbia , Mexico or Brazil for pennies on the dollar, and less regulations? It's all business America ...nothing personal. Besides.....your government is giving BILLIONS to Columbia and Brazil to build refineries to process all that oil the US is losing. We are building up every country on earth, while destroying our own....all in the name of redistribution of wealth.
I covered some of these "deals" Barry inked in my previous note.
You do the math. When the US oil refineries finally close up shop, who will process all that oil....and how much do YOU think that oil will cost when it's ALL processed over seas? Think gas and energy costs are high right now.......wait 6 months. You haven't seen anything yet. How can anyone expect any company to do business with an anti-American, hostile government out of control? You can't. That is why we are seeing a mass exodus, across the board in every industry in the US LEAVING.Hmmmm.......You will obey and buy electric cars.Read the full story here.

"This is a market. Tell your prime minister."

"This is a market. Tell your prime minister."(ArleneFromIsrael).By Arlene Kusner.Last night I attended an Anglo Likud event at the Begin Center that featured two speakers who truly understand what's what. Their message, too, brings illuminates the theme of what is possible when we believe in ourselves, our strength, and what we are intended to be. The first to speak was Professor Moshe Sharon, professor of early Islamic history at Hebrew University and the author of several books. Credit: FrontpageJerusalem.
Sharon was the only Arabic speaker at the negotiations between Israel and Egypt. At that time, Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, said to him in Arabic, "This is a market. Tell your prime minister." He was telling us, explained Sharon, to learn the language of the Arab bazaar, but we never have.
Professor Sharon then outlined the key principles of that bazaar. The Arabs, he declared, use language with more sophistication than almost any other people, and have been doing so for 2,000 years. But they use this skill in order to lie, and it works for them. "Lying is the salt of a man," goes an Arabic saying: as if man's merit is in his ability to lie successfully.
And here they are attempting to sell something they don't truly possess, for there is no peace in the Arab. And yet Israel is ready to pay a great deal for that peace that doesn't really exist. Some rules:

  1. Buy information and never give information. Don't present your program. Let the other side show their program.
  2. If they do show a program, say it is not enough. Be prepared to pick up and leave. A story. When Israel was negotiating with Egypt, President Carter pushed Begin to include Jerusalem in the negotiations. Begin said, "Give me five minutes." "Take as much time as you need!" enthused Carter. "No," explained Begin, "five minutes is all we need to pack our suitcases." The subject of Jerusalem was dropped by Carter
  3. Never provide a counter-program immediately. Never present "creative ideas." Never cross your own red lines or depart from the full program you had proposed. Never leave everything open to negotiations -- some things should not be subject to negotiations.
  4. Never change you program thinking this will lead the other side to change. Never let the other side present major problems as "minor."
  5. NEVER show your plan to a third party. Begin learned this the hard way. Thinking Carter a friend of Israel, he shared plans with him, and those plans quickly went to the Egyptians
  6. Do not become an anthropologist, concerned with Arab "honor." You also have honor. Do not imagine that kissing on the cheeks and all the rest means something.
  7. The final idea is to win! Sadat also said, "I gave Menachem Begin a piece of paper and he gave me the whole Sinai. If the Arabs really want peace, they must give something in return. Demand even more than they can give. What Sharon warned is that we show too much eagerness for peace, and that the other side, perceiving this, keeps raising the price. No different from, say, walking into a carpet store and gushing about how magnificent a particular carpet it -- this immediately sends up the price. If the time should come when the Arabs sincerely seek peace, then they will see it as having value and be prepared to give something to secure it.Read the full story here

Why am i not surprised?Rep. Clyburn: Obama should campaign against Supreme Court if health law falls.

Why am i not surprised?Rep. Clyburn: Obama should campaign against Supreme Court if health law falls.(TheHill).Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.) said President Obama should campaign against the Supreme Court, painting it as a conservative, activist institution if it rules that the administration’s healthcare law is unconstitutional.
In terms of the Congress, I believe that it would be off-base for us to do that, but for the president, I don’t think it is,” Clyburn said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Monday. “I think the president ought to take a look at what happened in years before — we’ve seen presidents run against Congress and we’ve seen presidents run against the Supreme Court. Franklin Roosevelt did it to the Supreme Court; [Harry] Truman did it to the Congress.”After last week’s high-court hearings on the constitutionality of the Obama healthcare reform law, many Democrats fear the five conservative judges will vote in unison against it. Some legal watchers panned Solicitor General Donald Verrilli’s presentation, with CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin describing the Obama legal case as a “train wreck” after the second day of oral arguments.“I think the president will take a look at exactly what he needs to do to connect with the American people, let them know that he’s done everything he can possibly do and ask them to give him a mandate for the years going forward,” Clyburn continued. The Supreme Court is expected to rule on the healthcare law in June.Hmmm......Months ago i warned that if he gets re-elected he would try to abolish the Constitution, with the pretext that people voted for him although he stood against the Constitution.Read And see (Video) the full story here.

"My People" justice expected from A.G. Holder?Trayvon Martin's Parents Want Investigation Into Prosecutor.

"My People" justice expected from A.G. Holder?Trayvon Martin's Parents Want Investigation Into Prosecutor.(NBCMiami).The parents of Trayvon Martin want the U.S. Justice Department to review the Seminole County prosecutor's investigating into their son's death, the family's lawyer said. Attorney Benjamin Crump said parents Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton will send a formal request to the Justice Department Monday to examine State Attorney Norm Wolfinger's interactions with police the night of Martin's shooting, according to CNN.
The Justice Department launched an investigation into the Feb. 26 shooting on March 19, but the family wants them to look into possible interference by Wolfinger's office with the Sanford Police investigation. Last week, it was revealed that the Sanford Police Department requested an arrest warrant from the Seminole County State Attorney's Office in the shooting, but the state attorney's office held off until the case could be further reviewed. There's no indication the prosecutor went to the scene of the shooting, but in a police report of the incident, there's an indication that Sanford Police may have felt a manslaughter charge was warranted in the case.
Florida Gov. Rick Scott has appointed a special prosecutor to oversee the investigation into Martin's death. The FBI is also investigating the shooting. The Miami Gardens teen was visiting with his father at his father's girlfriend's home in the gated community and had gone to buy a bag of Skittles and iced tea at a nearby convenience store and was walking back when the shooting happened. Though Martin was unarmed, Zimmerman told police the shooting was self-defense, and no charges have been filed in the case.
Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee Jr., who has temporarily stepped down pending the investigation into the shooting, had said there was no probable cause to arrest Zimmerman, citing the state's "Stand Your Ground" law. Zimmerman told police he had been following Martin but was walking back to his car when the teen approached him from behind, punched him in the face, got on top of him while he was on the ground and started bashing his head into the sidewalk. Police said Zimmerman had a bloody nose, gash on the back of his head and grass stains on the back of his shirt. Zimmerman's family and attorney say the 28-year-old also had his nose broken by Martin. Zimmerman's brother said the neighborhood watch volunteer was in a fight for his life the night of the shooting, and insists the cries for help heard on a 911 call from the scene are his brother's.Read the full story here.

Helen Thomas Honored at PLO Event in Washington.

Helen Thomas Honored at PLO Event in Washington.(INN).The High Commission for the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) in Washington honored American journalist and anti-Semite, Helen Thomas, according to a report in the Arabic Palestine Press Agency reported, translated by the Elder of Ziyyon blog. Thomas, the daughter of Lebanese immigrants, exposed her anti-Semitic prejudices in June of 2010 when she stated that Jews “should get the hell out of Palestine.” “They [should] go home. Poland. Germany. And America and everywhere else,” she said. In an interview in October of that year, she stood by her original statements and accused “them” -- an apparent reference to Zionists – of distorting her remarks “for their own propaganda purposes,” Arutz Sheva reported.
Thomas was presented with an award, recognizing her career in journalism and writing, at the home of Ambassador Maen Rashid Ereikat, President of the Commission General of the PLO in Washington. The ceremony was attended by a group of ambassadors, diplomats, journalists, “human rights” activists and American Arab leaders in the United States. Hanan Ashrawi, member of the Executive Committee of the PLO, also participated in the event and presented Thomas with a medal of recognition, on behalf of President Mahmoud Abbas. Ashrawi relayed Abbas’ gratitude for all that Thomas has done in support of the ‘Palestinian’ cause. Following Thomas’ anti-Semitic remarks in 2010, Wayne State University, her alma mater, pulled an award in her name, affirming that, “the university strongly condemns the anti-Semitic remarks made by Helen Thomas.”Read the full story here.

Video - Daylight: The Story of Obama and Israel.

America's Muslim President.By. "al Rassooli".
Even if one listens to the first five minutes one will come to the conclusion that:

  1. Obama is a closeted Muslim.
  2. His understanding of the REAL Muslim mindset is negligible.
  3. He knows even less about how the Arabs think.
  4. He has no understanding or true knowledge of the history of the Jews.
  5. He has betrayed each and every friend of the USA among the Arabs.
  6. He commands no respect among Muslims (my field of expertise).
  7. He has caused more damage to America Economically, Politically and Militarily than any president including Carter.
  8. In summation, if he is re elected, it will be the end of America and freedom all over the world.
  9. Anyone disagreeing with my analysis I would appreciate your comments."al Rassooli" ..

Video: Hamas Urges Women to Blow Themselves Up.

A Hamas legislator gave a fiery speech, urging women to blow themselves up for the sake of Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa mosque. Speaking before the Global March on Jerusalem, Mushri al-Masri addressed a score of Palestinian women in Gaza in a speech broadcast on Hamas Al Aqsa television and translated by the IDF on its website. His constant theme was to sacrifice Arab blood “for the Al Aqsa mosque,” which is on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. “The Hamas woman in Gaza, the Palestinian woman, says that our blood is a sacrifice for Al Aqsa mosque and that we will give Al Aqsa mosque blood and pave the road with body parts,” the Hamas legislator declared. He called on Gaza women to march towards Israel as part of “one message – that the Hamas’ compass and direction are clear; they are not vague or obscure. “ “Palestine, all of Palestine and Jerusalem, all of Jerusalem – its west before its east, Palestine with every grain of its earth with every particle is the property of the Palestinian people and the rifle of Al Kassam Brigades and the willingness of the Jihad warrior to fight for the sake of Allah and sacrifice her sons,” Al Masri continued. He called for “a struggle and a revolution that will say to this enemy, ‘You have no place on our land.’” The Global March took place on Friday with less than 50,000 demonstrators in Jordan, Syria, Egypt and Lebanon, far less than two million promised.Read and see the full story here.

Palestinian officer, Red Crescent employees suspected in attack against IDF troops

Palestinian officer, Red Crescent employees suspected in attack against IDF troops.(Haaretz).Thirteen residents of the Amari refugee camp near the West Bank city of Ramallah were arrested recently for alleged involvement in an attempted attack on Israel Defense Forces soldiers two months ago, the Shin Bet security service said Monday. The suspects include employees of the Palestinian Red Crescent, a member of the Palestinian Olympic soccer team and an officer in the Palestinian General Intelligence Service. The incident in question occurred on January 20, when shots were fired at IDF forces operating in Ramallah. No one was wounded in the attack, but one IDF vehicle sustained damage. The suspects named in the attack included Salah Barael, 23, who works as a guard for the Red Crescent and Omar Abu Rwayyis, also 23, who also works for the Red Crescent. According to the Shin Bet, Abu Rwayyis is affiliated with Hamas and is also a goalkeeper on the Palestinian Olympic soccer team. According to the Shin Bet, the suspects shot at IDF forces using Kalashnikovs, then hid the weapons in an abandoned building. Later, Abu Rwayyis allegedly handed off the guns to another resident of the camp, Ahmed Hattab, who is also employed by the Red Crescent. After Abu Rwayyis was arrested, Hattab gave the guns to another man, Mansour Abbas, who serves as an officer in the Palestinian General Intelligence Service in Ramallah and is responsible for the guards at the Red Crescent. The Shin Bet also suspects Hattab of dealing in arms. According to the Shin Bet, the suspects' interrogations revealed additional plans for shooting attacks on IDF forces in West Bank cities and checkpoints.Read the full story here.More at IsraelMatzav.

Russian Siberian Airliner Crash Kills 31, survivor was 'Too Tired' to Board Ill-Fated Plane

Russian Siberian Airliner Crash Kills 31, survivor was 'Too Tired' to Board Ill-Fated Plane.(RN).A 36-year-old businessman from Tyumen missed the ill-fated flight to Surgut that crashed shortly after takeoff killing 31 people, the city’s deputy prosecutor general said. “According to the pre-flight list, there should have been 40 passengers on board, but one person missed the flight and this possibly saved his life,” Valentin Tarasov said. The lucky survivor, Dmitry Grigoryev, told the Life News portal that he had to go to Surgut on a business trip, but was just too tired to go to the airport after a kite surfing competition and decided to take another flight. “I had the ticket in my pocket,” Grigoryev said. “But I was returning from the competition in my car and had to spend several hours behind the wheel. The weather was bad, the road was awful, so I got home only by three a.m. local time. I decided to take another flight on Tuesday. I was so tired I did not even call to the airport to change the ticket.” He said that he learned about the disaster from his colleague’s wife, who called him upon hearing about the crash. “She asked me if I was alive. Then everything got blurry… The first thing I did was to call my mother,” Grigoryev said. The survivor said he cancelled all nearest business trips. “I don’t know if I’ll be able to fly to Surgut. Psychologically, this is too hard,” he said.Read the full story here, more here.

Egyptian Copts abandon constitution talks, say ‘pointless’ to take part

Egyptian Copts abandon constitution talks, say ‘pointless’ to take part.(AlArabiya).Egypt’s Coptic Orthodox Church has said it is “pointless” to take part in talks on a new constitution, saying mounting Islamist domination in the talks has led them to withdraw from the assembly, Egypt’s state news agency said. The 100-member constitutional assembly selected by the parliament is dominated by Islamists, reflecting their resounding victory in parliamentary elections. Late on Sunday, the Church announced the decision to withdraw; a move which followed earlier calls by Egyptian liberals to boycott the constitution drafting committee, which is seen as failing to adequately represent the nation’s diversity.“The Coptic Orthodox Church General Council agreed with the approval of all of the council’s 20 members to withdraw from the constitutional assembly... as it found it was pointless for the church to be represented following the comments made by the national forces about the way the assembly was formed,” the state news agency said, quoting a church statement. The current constitution was suspended by the country’s army rulers in February of last year shortly after they took power from Egypt’s long-serving autocratic president, Hosni Mubarak. Coptic Christians, who form Egypt’s biggest minority group and constitute most of Egypt’s 10 percent Christian population, have long had a difficult relationship with the country’s overwhelmingly Muslim majority. Since Mubarak’s ouster, Christians have become increasingly worried after an upsurge in attacks on churches, which they blame on hardline Islamists, although experts say local disputes are often also behind them. The new constitution is eagerly awaited by many Egyptians. It is expected to include more freedoms and define rules of the state’s political authorities, including the presidential powers which were absolute during the 30-year-rule of Mubarak. Many liberal parties, public figures along with the state’s top Islamic authority of al-Azhar have all previously announced their withdrawal from the assembly.
A Muslim Brotherhood MP said on Sunday that the group’s political wing, the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), has drawn up the basic features of the constitution to be drafted by the Islamist-dominated Constituent Assembly, according to Egypt’s Al-Ahram newspaper. Saad El-Husseini, of the FJP, told the paper that the party has decided that the constitution will be based on the al-Azhar Document and the Democratic Coalition for Egypt Document. “The Al-Azhar Document, published June 2011, supports ‘the establishment of a modern, democratic and constitutional state’ in Egypt that would observe the separation of powers and guarantee equal rights to all citizens,” the newspaper explains. Meanwhile, the Democratic Coalition for Egypt, (a coalition of 34 parties, including the FJP and the liberal Wafd Party) issued a document in August 2011 containing what they call “non-binding fundamental guiding principles for the constitution,” a document that “respects plurality and guarantees freedom, justice, equality and equal opportunity for all citizens without bias or discrimination.”Read the full story here.

China's Ex-Energy Chief Dismisses US Demand for Cutting Iran Oil Imports.

China's Ex-Energy Chief Dismisses US Demand for Cutting Iran Oil Imports.(Fars).TEHRAN - China will import crude oil from Iran based on its demand and won't be influenced by the edicts of "some country," the former head of China's National Energy Administration said. Speaking at the 2012 Boao Forum in China, Zhang Guobao said recent US and European Union sanctions against importing crude from Iran don't include "halting normal trade".
A US appeal earlier this year for countries to reduce crude imports from Iran has pushed up global crude prices, which has been harmful to the global economy, Zhang added. Higher oil prices combined with slower economic growth will also hurt oil demand, he said. Still, global oil prices probably won't rise much, he added. Zhang said the release of strategic oil reserves by countries such as the US wouldn't help keep crude prices in check because "releasing inventory only can affect prices for a short time." Separately, Fu Chengyu, chairman of China Petroleum and Chemical Corp., known as Sinopec Corp., said oil sanctions against Iran will push prices higher, which is bad for the global economic recovery. Fu added that US President Barack Obama has asked the world to release their strategic oil stockpiles, which has clearly showed the impact and pressures caused by the sanctions. The Obama administration said last week that it would initiate tougher sanctions against Iran, alleging that a cutoff of Iranian oil wouldn't significantly harm world markets. The move follows tighter sanctions it signed into law earlier this year targeting financial institutions doing business with Iran's central bank. Tehran says sanctions and pressures merely consolidate Iranians' national resolve and determination.Read the full story here.

"The Chickens come home to roost".Gasoline and diesel oil prices in Turkey, become the highest in the world.(HD).Gasoline and diesel oil prices in Turkey, the highest in the world, have hit another record high. As of Thursday, the price had hit 2.68 US dollars per liter. (Almost $10/Gallon).The gasoline itself costs only 1 US dollar per liter, but taxes make up 60% of the cost at the pump.Turkish consumers have woken up to a costlier life in April, with the Minister of Energy announcing that natural gas prices have been raised by a staggering 18.7 percent, while electricity prices also increased about 9.3 percent over the weekend. The natural gas and electricity price hikes come just after gasoline prices rose for the third time late last month, putting the cost of one liter of gas at nearly 5 Turkish Liras.
“There is a cost increase of about 17 percent in natural gas due only to changes in the exchange rate. In the last 19 months oil and natural gas prices have risen 29 percent, excluding the exchange rate. The reason for the latest price increase is the difference in the exchange rate and rising oil prices,” Minister of Energy Taner Yıldız said, speaking in the central Anatolian province of Kayseri March 31, according to Doğan news agency. “The government used to purchase [one barrel of] oil for $22 ten years ago, now it cannot purchase one even for $122. Energy costs are up six-fold versus a gross domestic product growth of three-fold,” he said.Turkey produces nearly half of its electricity from natural gas power plants. The energy sector pays the price for political instability caused by tensions in North Africa, Syria, and between Israel and Iran, Yıldız said yesterday. Turkey is in talks with the Libyan government to arrange a goods-for-oil barter, Anatolia news agency quoted him as saying. “We will construct buildings in exchange for petroleum coke,” he said. Citizens pay the price while the government manages the economy with price hikes, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, the head of the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) said yesterday, speaking in the northwestern province of Eskişehir. “They used to say ‘Turkey sets an example to the whole world,’ and ‘there is no problem with the economy.’ What kind of an example is this?Hmmmm.......Anyone has an idea why Turkey is eyeing the Nobel Gas field near Cyprus?Would it be worthwhile to go to War?Read the full story here.

Apparently The U.S. has accepted an Nuclear Iran, Clinton proposes missile shield to protect Gulf nations.

Apparently The U.S. has accepted an Nuclear Iran, Clinton proposes missile shield to protect Gulf nations.(BM).CAIRO: Hillary Clinton, US Secretary of State, met with the foreign ministers of the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) yesterday, proposed a strong missile shield to protect Gulf Arab states from Tehran and sought to work with them to help end the violence in Iran’s ally Syria. Clinton said: “It is a US priority to help the GCC build a regional missile defense architecture” against what that country sees as a looming ballistic missile threat from Iran. Clinton said that she looked forward to discussing the wide range of common strategic concerns, including preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon and curbing its interference in the affairs of its neighbors.
In her remarks at the opening session of the first high-profile ministerial meeting of the GCC-US Strategic Cooperation Forum, she intimated that Washington sought improved ties and strategies with Gulf states in different fields including maritime security and missile defense to counter the threat of Iran. Later, addressing newsmen at the GCC General Secretariat with Prince Saud Al-Faisal, Clinton said that Iran and six world powers had agreed to meet in Istanbul on April 13 for the latest round of talks about Tehran’s nuclear program. She pointed out that Iran and the six nations — the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China — also met in Istanbul some 14 months ago. The talks at that time ended without any conclusion, said Clinton while expressing fears and concerns. “It will be clear soon whether Iran’s leaders are prepared to have a serious, credible discussion about their nuclear program, whether they are ready to start building the basis of a resolution to this very serious problem,” Clinton told reporters. “It is up to Iran whether they are ready to make the right choice. … What is certain is that Iran’s window of opportunity to seek and obtain a peaceful resolution will not remain open forever.”
She also expressed doubt about whether Iran had any intention of negotiating a solution that satisfies the US, Israel and other countries that believe Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons. In her speech at the GCC-US forum, Clinton also highlighted US concerns about Iran and Syria ahead of a broader international meeting in Istanbul aimed at ending President Bashar Assad’s crackdown in Syria, which has killed more than 10,000 innocent civilians in that country. The forum also discussed overall relations and prospective cooperation between the GCC as a bloc and the US in political, economic, commercial and cultural fields. The participants took stock both of the political situations in the region, and regional and international issues of common interest. The forum’s meeting comes as the Obama administration is moving to strengthen its ties with Gulf nations whose geography and oil resources already have made them key players in US defense and energy security. Clinton also discussed with the Saudi officials international efforts to send more humanitarian aid into Syria, and support opposition efforts to present a united and inclusive political vision for the future. She also discussed tightening the array of US, European, Canadian, Arab and Turkish sanctions on Syria, US.Hmmmm..........Don't worry Israel we got your back, for the rest we have a missile shield?Read the full story here.

Poll: Egyptians don't want aid from US, we want aid from Iran, Turkey.

Poll: Egyptians don't want aid from US, we want aid from Iran, Turkey.(JPost).An overwhelming majority of Egyptians support replacing US economic aid with funds from Iran or Turkey, according to new poll results, while the proportion of those viewing the treaty with Israel as positive has remained steady at just under half. Eighty-two percent of Egyptians questioned opposed US economic aid to Egypt - according to figures released this weekend by the US-based Gallup polling organization - up from 71% in December 2011 and 52% in April of that year.
The latest figures, released in 2010, show US assistance to Egypt standing at $1.7 billion - the fifth-highest foreign-aid package after Afghanistan, Pakistan, Israel and Iraq. Still, $1.3 billion of that sum is earmarked for military purposes, and Egypt's ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces has given no indication it intends to cut its portion of Washington's package. Egyptians' attitudes toward US aid appeared to have soured at the same time as American and European NGO employees faced charges of illegally accepting foreign funds and stirring unrest. The military council closed the NGOs in December, but a month ago dropped the charges against the six US workers and lifted the travel ban against them.
Still, the NGO saga continues to stir strong emotions among ordinary citizens in Egypt, and the country's parliamentary speaker - representing the Muslim Brotherhood - has called for an investigation into how the decision to remove the travel ban was issued. A Gallup poll released last month found 56% of Egyptians view closer relations with the US as bad for their country, up from 40% in December of last year. Just over a quarter say closer relations with Washington are a positive thing, compared with 41% who favor closer ties with Iran and 60% with Turkey.
US President Barack Obama has made rapprochement with the Muslim world one of his signature foreign-policy objectives, making a well-publicized address in Cairo in June 2009 and calling for the ouster of then-president Hosni Mubarak - a key US ally for three decades - just days into the popular uprising against him in February 2011. Still, the latest results indicate only 19% of Egyptians express approval of US government policy, while 65% disapprove and the rest are undecided. The number of Egyptians who view the peace treaty with Israel as a good thing remained largely steady since 10 months ago at just under half, while 42% said it was bad and the rest were undecided.Hmmm.....Trust the Obama Admin to ignore Congress and keep giving Billions of taxpayer money to a government that hates the U.S.Read the full story here.

Nazareth imam of the Shihab a-Din mosque in Nazareth convicted of inciting terror.

Shihab a-Din mosque in Nazareth. Nazareth imam of the Shihab a-Din mosque in Nazareth convicted of inciting terror.(JPost).The Nazareth Magistrate's Court on Sunday convicted the imam of a mosque in the city on charges of incitement to violence and terrorism and supporting a terror organization. 47-year-old Nazem Abu Salim, imam of the Shihab a-Din mosque in Nazareth since 1997, delivered Friday sermons to a congregation of around 2,000 people and also gave sermons in other mosques, including the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. The state attorney's office filed an indictment against Abu Salim in 2010, charging that the imam founded a Salafist-Jihadist group, Ansar Allah Bayit al-Maqdas al-Nasira (Supporters of God - Jerusalem - Nazareth'), whose ideology was identical to that of al-Qaida and its global Jihad movement, and that he preached and distributed literature about it to his congregants. The prosecution alleged that Ansar Allah calls on its followers to wage Jihad to lead Islam to victory and free Jerusalem from what it says is a "Zionist Crusader plot."
Abu Salim, who was held under house arrest since the commencement of legal proceedings against him in 2010, also established a website, MUSLIM 48, designed to spread Ansar Allah's teachings to a worldwide audience, the indictment said. Abu Salim expressed solidarity with the al-Qaida terror group and on several occasions encouraged violence, the prosecution argued. The prosecution charged that Ansar Allah has as its symbol a globe in the shape of the Dome of the Rock topped by a black flag, a mark also identified with the Taliban as well as with the radical Islamist ideologies of the Salafist movement.
The prosecution argued that a group of worshipers at Abu Salim's mosque were influenced by the extreme Islamist ideologies expounded in his publications. The group went on to commit violent acts against Christians and Jews - including murdering a Jewish taxi driver and attacking Christians, the prosecution alleged.Judge Lili Jung-Goffer said that the evidence shows that Ansar Allah belongs to the Salafist Islam movement, and that the group has about 100 activists and thousands of worshipers and participants. According to the Shabak, the Salafist-Jihadist movement is a radical group within Salafism, a Sunni movement that strives to restore the glory days of early Islam by establishing an Islamic society under Sharia law.
In Israel, Ansar Allah is headed by its founder and spiritual leader - Abu Salim, the judge said. "Various materials seized, including the flag and the symbol, indicate that the organization also had the symbolic trappings of a real group, with an ideology, a purpose and a leadership," Judge Jung-Goffer said. Ansar Allah was also declared an illegal organization by the Defense Minister in July 2011, the judge added. The judge also referred to an expert opinion given by Dr Sagi Polka of Ben Gurion University, who said that the Ansar Allah's ideology is to lead Jihad to establish a global Caliphate.
Polka said that Scapa's website had published materials typical of al-Qaida. Judge Jung-Goffer also said that the court did not accept Scapa's arguments that his statements praising al-Qaida leaders, the Taliban and Islamic Jihad were made innocently, and not out of solidarity with those terror groups. Scapa had also confirmed to the Shin Bet that he viewed former al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden as a hero and that he supports Islam's struggle against the West, the judge said. According to the Shabak, Salafist and Salafist-Jihadist ideologies are being disseminated mostly in the Palestinian Authority controlled territories and in Gaza, but on a smaller scale have also begun to spread among Israeli Arabs, and that Abu Salim is the ideological leader of the movement in Israel.Read the full story here.

'We can bring the government down': Truckers vow to 'bring UK to a halt' in support of striking tanker drivers.

'We can bring the government down': Truckers vow to 'bring UK to a halt' in support of striking tanker drivers.(DM).Thousands of truckers are preparing to go head to head with the army in support of striking tanker drivers - and have warned they will 'bring Britain to a halt'. They plan to blockade refineries and cause gridlock on motorways to stop soldiers moving fuel around the UK in the event of a strike. Fuel Lobby leaders who are concerned at rocketing prices have formed an alliance with the tanker drivers, whose union bosses will begin talks this week to try to prevent strike action. It follows a disastrous week for the Government after ministers faced intense criticism for urging motorists to keep their petrol tanks topped up - prompting a wave of panic-buying at filling stations across the country.
The truckers are led by farmer and haulier Andrew Spence, who was instrumental in the blockades in 2000 which led to 3,000 petrol stations running out of fuel. The father-of three, who runs a mixed farm and plant hire company in Consett, County Durham, said he would 'bring Britain to a halt' unless his organisation's concerns were addressed.
He said: 'We have been in negotiations with the tanker drivers since 2000 and have been aware of their grievances for some time. 'We have said to them we may have to stand beside them in any protest. We are better organised than we were in 2000. This time we will bring the Government down.' He said the action was a 'last resort' because hauliers and farmers were going bust. 'People are going to the wall. The pressure we are under is ridiculous,' he added. 'The price of fuel is rising by the day and 63 per cent of the price is tax. It is costing me £200 a day just to run an average sized tractor. 'I filled up the five wagons I run yesterday and it cost me £7,500. That fuel will last till Tuesday and then I'll have to fill them up all over again.Gas price stands now at $ 8.485 a Gallon.'There is no way you can make a living.
We are supposed to be coming out of a recession but it feels like we are getting deeper into it.' The Fuel Lobby blockades in 2000 were driven by the cost of petrol and diesel for road vehicle use. They were led primarily by lorry drivers and farmers. The protests forced the government to announce a freezing of fuel duties and promised changes would be made to the way that goods vehicles on British road were taxed. Mr Spence said: 'There is no meat left on the bone. 'It just cannot go on. If it does, we'll be back to the days of Steptoe and Son and I'll be delivering to Tesco and Asda in a horse and cart, which right now does not seem such a poor option. 'When you are put in a corner, what can you do? We are in that corner and we are going to come out and fight.' His warning came as Foreign Secretary William Hague said Britain is better prepared to withstand a strike by tanker drivers because of the actions taken by the Government over the past week. Ministers faced criticism for urging motorists to keep their petrol tanks topped up, which led to panic-buying at filling stations across the country. The union representing fuel tanker drivers is preparing to enter peace talks amid a plea to the Government not to scupper the prospect of a deal to avert strikes. With talks set to begin at the conciliation service Acas this week, Unite - which represents fuel tanker drivers - urged the Government to distance itself from speculation that the message to stockpile fuel was part of a deliberate strategy to give the coalition its 'miners moment'. Queues have now shortened on petrol forecourts after drivers were urged not to panic-buy fuel. The Government issued new advice, telling motorists there was 'no urgency' to top up tanks, after Unite ruled out the threat of strikes over Easter.Read the full story here

The Ottoman Empires 'Life or Death Race', the staggering violence it meted out to the highest and mightiest members of society.

Departure of Mehmed VI, last Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, 1922.

The Ottoman Empires 'Life or Death Race', the staggering violence it meted out to the highest and mightiest members of society.(AD).The executioners of the Ottoman Empire were never noted for their mercy: just ask the teenage Sultan Osman II, who in May 1622 suffered an excruciating death by compression of the testicles as contemporary chronicles put it at the hands of an assassin known as Pehlivan the Oil Wrestler. There was reason for this ruthlessness, however; for much of its history (the most successful bit, in fact), the Ottoman dynasty flourished- ruling over modern Turkey, the Balkans and most of North Africa and the Middle East- thanks in part to the staggering violence it meted out to the highest and mightiest members of society.
Seen from this perspective, it might be argued that the Ottomans' decline set in early in the 17th century, precisely at the point when they abandoned the policy of ritually murdering a significant proportion of the royal family whenever a sultan died, and substituted the Western notion of simply giving the job to the first-born son instead. Before then, Ottoman succession had been governed by the law of fratricide drawn up by Mehmed II in the middle of the 15th century. Under the terms of this remarkable piece of legislation, whichever member of the ruling dynasty succeeded in seizing the throne on the death of the old sultan was not merely permitted, but enjoined, to murder all his brothers (together with any inconvenient uncles and cousins) in order to reduce the risk of subsequent rebellion and civil war. Although it was not invariably applied, Mehmed's law resulted in the deaths of at least 80 members of the House of Osman over a period of 150 years. These victims included all 19 siblings of Sultan Mehmed III- some of whom were still infants at the breast, but all of whom were strangled with silk handkerchiefs immediately after their brother's accession in 1595. For all its deficiencies, the law of fratricide ensured that the most ruthless of the available princes generally ascended to the throne.
That was more than could be said of its replacement, the policy of locking up unwanted siblings in the kafes ( cage ), a suite of rooms deep within the Topkapi palace in Istanbul. From around 1600, generations of Ottoman royals were kept imprisoned there until they were needed, sometimes several decades later, consoled in the meantime by barren concubines and permitted only a strictly limited range of recreations, the chief of which was macramé. This, the later history of the empire amply demonstrated, was not ideal preparation for the pressures of ruling one of the greatest states the world has ever known. For many years, the Topkapi itself paid mute testimony to the grand extent of Ottoman ruthlessness. In order to enter the palace, visitors had first to pass through the Imperial Gate, on either side of which were two niches where the heads of recently executed criminals were always on display. Inside the gate stood the First Court, through which all visitors to the inner portions of the palace had to pass. This court was open to all the sultan's subjects, and it seethed with an indescribable mass of humanity. Any Turk had the right to petition for redress of his grievances, and several hundred agitated citizens usually surrounded the kiosks at which harassed scribes took down their complaints. Elsewhere within the same court stood numerous armories and magazines, the buildings of the imperial mint and stables for 3,000 horses.
The focal point, however, was a pair of example stones positioned directly outside the Central Gate, which led to the Second Court. These stones were actually marble pillars on which were placed the severed heads of notables who had somehow offended the sultan, stuffed with cotton if they had once been viziers or with straw if they had been lesser men. Reminders of the sporadic mass executions ordered by the sultan were occasionally piled up by the Central Gate as additional warnings: severed noses, ears and tongues. Capital punishment was so common in the Ottoman Empire that there was a Fountain of Execution in the First Court, where the chief executioner and his assistant went to wash their hands after decapitating their victims- ritual strangulation being reserved for members of the royal family and their most senior officials. This fountain was the most feared symbol of the arbitrary power of life and death of the sultans over their subjects, and was hated and feared accordingly, the historian Barnette Miller wrote.
It was used with particular frequency during the reign of Sultan Selim I- Selim the Grim (1512-20)- who, in a reign of eight short years, went through seven grand viziers (the Ottoman title for a chief minister) and ordered 30,000 lesser executions. So perilous was the position of vizier in those dark days that holders of the office were said not to leave their homes in the morning without tucking their wills inside their robes; for centuries afterward, Miller points out, one of the most common curses uttered in the Ottoman Empire was Mays't thou be vizier to Sultan Selim!
Given the escalating demands of the executioner's job, it seems remarkable that the Turks employed no specialist headsman to tackle the endless round of loppings, but they did not. The job of executioner was held instead by the Sultan's bostanc1 basha, or head gardener- the Ottoman corps of gardeners being a sort of 5,000-strong bodyguard that, aside from cultivating the Sultan's paradise gardens, doubled up as customs inspectors and police officers. It was the royal gardeners who sewed condemned women into weighted sacks and dropped them into the Bosphorus- another Sultan, Ibrahim the Mad (1640-48), once had all 280 of the women in his harem executed this way simply so he could have the pleasure of selecting their successors- and the tread of an approaching group of bostanc1 s, wearing their traditional uniform of red skull caps, muslin breeches and shirts cut low to expose muscular chests and arms, heralded death by strangulation or decapitation for many thousands of Ottoman subjects down the years. When very senior officials were sentenced to death, they would be dealt with by the bostanc1 basha in person, but- at least toward the end of the sultans' rule- execution was not the inevitable result of a death sentence. Instead, the condemned man and the bostanc1 basha took part in what was surely one of the most peculiar customs known to history: a race held between the head gardener and his anticipated victim, the result of which was, quite literally, a matter of life or death for the trembling grand vizier or chief eunuch required to undertake it. How this custom came about remains unknown. From the end of the eighteenth century, however, accounts of the bizarre race began to emerge from the seraglio, and these seem reasonably consistent in their details. Death sentences passed within the walls of the Topkapi were generally delivered to the head gardener at the Central Gate; and Godfrey Goodwin describes the next part of the ritual thus: It was the bostanciba_ i's duty to summon any notable.& When the vezir or other unfortunate miscreant arrived, he well knew why he had been summoned, but he had to bite his lip through the courtesies of hospitality before, at long last, being handed a cup of sherbet. If it were white, he sighed with relief, but if it were red he was in despair, because red was the color of death. For most of the bostanc1 s' victims, the sentence was carried out immediately after the serving of the fatal sherbet by a group of five muscular young janissaries, members of the sultan's elite infantry. For a grand vizier, however, there was still a chance: as soon as the death sentence was passed, the condemned man would be allowed to run as fast as he was able the 300 yards or so from the palace, through the gardens, and down to the Fish Market Gate on the southern side of the palace complex, overlooking the Bosphorus, which was the appointed place of execution. If the deposed vizier reached the Fish Market Gate before the head gardener, his sentence was commuted to mere banishment. But if the condemned man found the bostanci basha waiting for him at the gate, he was summarily executed and his body hurled into the sea. Ottoman records show that the strange custom of the fatal race lasted into the early years of the nineteenth century. The last man to save his neck by winning the life-or-death sprint was the Grand Vizier Hac1 Salih Pasha, in November 1822. Hac1 - whose predecessor had lasted a mere nine days in office before his own execution- not only survived his death sentence, but was so widely esteemed for winning his race that he went on to be appointed governor general of the province of Damascus.Hmmmm.......Turkey's foreign minister Davutoglu his dream is to re-create a Neo-Ottoman empire.Read the full story here.

Norwegian Media - Breivik Plotted to Assassinate Obama.

Norwegian Media - Breivik Plotted to Assassinate Obama.(RN).Anders Behring Breivik, the man responsible for the bloody massacre in Norway last year, considered an attempt at the life of U.S. President Barack Obama, Norwegian media reported. Obama visited Oslo to accept his Nobel Peace Prize in 2009. Breivik, a self-proclaimed “European anti-Marxist,” wanted to kill him in protest of the prize, which he said is traditionally awarded to people of leftist views, Dagbladet newspaper said on Sunday. Breivik considered disguising himself as a policeman and killing Obama by blowing up a car laden with explosives, he said during police questioning, Dagbladet reported. He said he eventually dropped the plan as unfeasible. Breivik, 33, is currently on trial for killing 77 people in a dual attack in Norway last July. The majority were participants of an island-based youth camp that he attacked in police uniform and shooting firearms, while eight were killed in a car blast in downtown Oslo staged as a diversion. Breivik admitted to the killings, but did not plead guilty, saying his actions were a justified protest against globalization and advance of Islam in Europe. He faces 21 year in prison, the maximum possible punishment in Norway. Breivik raised the money for the attacks through selling false education diplomas online, Verdens Gang tabloid reported on Sunday.Read the full story here.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei weapons of mass destruction violate Islamic law, did anyone inform Pakistan?

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei weapons of mass destruction violate Islamic law, did anyone inform Pakistan?(SS).Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton conferred with Turkey's prime minister about his nuclear discussions with Iran as the United States began intensively preparing for a round of negotiations between Tehran and world powers to take place within two weeks. The meeting came a day after Clinton announced that Istanbul would host the Apr. 13 talks on Iran's uranium enrichment program, which have taken on added urgency amid speculation that Israel or the U.S. could take military action later this year. Clinton made clear Saturday that time is running out for diplomacy. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan recently went to Iran on a two-day state visit and held a series of discussions with leaders of the Islamic republic on its disputed nuclear program. Washington and its allies see Iran trying to develop an atomic bomb. Tehran says its program is for peaceful energy and research purposes.Erdogan will give Clinton his take on where Iran stands, U.S. officials said on condition of anonymity ahead of the meeting. But Washington and its NATO ally haven't seen eye-to-eye on the Iranian threat. Erdogan has built close economic ties with Iran and has tried to act as a go-between on the disputed nuclear program, breaking ranks with world powers in 2010 by attempting to find a separate settlement with Tehran. And Erdogan's comments upon returning from Tehran suggested further distancing from U.S. and European positions, repeating the verdict of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei that weapons of mass destruction violate Islamic law. "After such a statement from such a person, I cannot claim that Iran is building a nuclear weapon," the Turkish leader said. "Does it not have the right to implement a nuclear program for peaceful means?"Hmmmm......Why don't they stop the charade? How many nuclear weapons has 'Islamic' Pakistan?Read the full story here.
