'US will not be able to return Syria to the state of chaos' Russian lawmaker on reports of possible US arms supply to Syrian opposition. (Tass).
According to first deputy chairman of Russian Federation Council’s Committee on defense and security Frants Klintsevich, the article of The Wall Street Journal about US plans to supply more powerful weapons to moderate Syrian opposition if the country’s truce collapses looks like an informational attack.
"The information provided by The Wall Street Journal looks more like an informational attack. CIA is probably involved here as well," Klintsevich said.
"The situation in Syria is now developing not in accordance with US plans," and that’s why "Russia is practically pushed toward unreasoned actions," he added. "The attempts will not bring any result. We are rather thick-skinned. US will not be able to return Syria to the state of chaos," the lawmaker said. The information about "Plan B" definitely sends a negative signal regardless of whether it is true or not, Klintsevich said adding that it makes one think "US have something else in mind." "This is in their traditions, and we faced it more than once," he said.
The Wall Street Journal wrote on Tuesday that "the Central Intelligence Agency and its regional partners have drawn up plans to supply more-powerful weapons to moderate rebels in Syria fighting the Russia-backed regime in the event the country’s six-week-old truce collapses, according to US and other officials."
