Iran FM Zarif : Sanctions to be lifted today
Iran FM Zarif : Sanctions to be lifted today. (Taz).
Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has said that by implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA, aka nuclear deal) the sanctions on the country will be lifted today.
Zarif made the remarks upon his arrival in Vienna, Austria to meet with his US counterpart John Kerry and the EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini over the Iran nuclear deal, the state IRINN TV reported Jan. 16.
International sanctions were imposed on Iran with regard to the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program.
“An IAEA report, verifying that Iran has fulfilled its commitments under the JCPOA, will be issued today,” Zarif said, adding after that, Iran and P5+1 will today issue a joint statement and the implementation of the nuclear deal will start.
He added that the nuclear deal’s implementation indicates that the problems can be settled via diplomacy, not through pressures or sanctions.
Earlier, Abbas Araqchi, Iran’s deputy foreign minister, said that the guideline of removing the US and EU sanctions against the Islamic Republic were finalized last week.
