Text of Netanyahu’s Holocaust Remembrance Day speech.(TimesOfIsrael).Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address at Yad Vashem on Wednesday, April 18, Holocaust Remembrance Day. (Official Prime Minister’s Office translation from the Hebrew.) Yesterday morning, I visited an old-age home for Holocaust survivors. There, I met Idit Yapo, an amazing woman of 104, clear and lucid. I dit fled Germany shortly after Hitler gained power, in 1934. I met 89-year-old Esther Nadiv, one of Mendele’s twins. She was reading a book, Golda Meir’s biography, and she told me, with a glint in her eye, she said: “I am so proud, so very proud to be a part of the State of Israel which is in constant development.” I met Hanoch Mandelbaum, an 89-year-old survivor of Bergen-Belsen. Shortly after he came to Israel, as a young carpenter, he helped construct the desk upon which Ben Gurion signed the Declaration of Independence. That is MiSho’a liTkuma – from holocaust to resurrection. And I met Elisheva Lehman, an 88 year-old Holocaust survivor from Holland, who was a music teacher. I asked Elisheva if she would play something for us and she did. She enthusiastically played “Am Yisrael Chai” and we all sung together. It was quite emotional. Ladies and Gentlemen, Am Yisrael Chai [The nation of Israel lives] Our enemies tried to bury the Jewish future, but it was reborn in the land of our forefathers. Here, we built a foundation for a new beginning of freedom, hope, and creation. Year after year, decade after decade, we built the foundations of our country, and we will continue to yearly strengthen the pillars of our national life.
On this day, when our entire nation gathers together to remember the horrors of the Holocaust and the six million Jews who were murdered, we must fulfill our most sacred obligation. This obligation is not merely an obligation to remember the past. It is an obligation to learn its lessons, and, most importantly, to apply them to the present in order to secure the future of our people. We must remember the past and secure the future by applying the lessons of the past. This is especially true for this generation – a generation that once again is faced with calls to annihilate the Jewish State.
One day, I hope that the State of Israel will enjoy peace with all the countries and all the peoples in our region. One day, I hope that we will read about these calls to destroy the Jews only in history books and not in daily newspapers. But that day has not yet come. Today, the regime in Iran openly calls and determinedly works for our destruction. And it is feverishly working to develop atomic weapons to achieve that goal. I know that there are those who do not like when I speak such uncomfortable truths. They prefer that we not speak of a nuclear Iran as an existential threat. They say that such language, even if true, only sows fear and panic.
I ask, have these people lost all faith in the people of Israel? Do they think that this nation, which has overcome every danger, lacks the strength to confront this new threat? Did the State of Israel not triumph over existential threats when it was far less powerful than it is today? Did its leaders have any qualms about saying the truth?
David Ben Gurion told the people of Israel the truth about the existential dangers they faced in 1948 when five Arab armies tried to snuff Israel out in its cradle. Levi Eshkol told the people of Israel the truth in 1967 when a noose was being placed around Israel’s neck and we stood alone to face our fate. And when they heard these truths, did the people of Israel panic or did they unite to thwart the dangers? Were we paralyzed with fear or did we do what was necessary to protect ourselves. I believe in the people of Israel – and this belief is based on our experiences. I believe that the people of Israel can handle the truth. And I believe that they we have the capability to defeat those who seek to harm us. Those who dismiss Iran’s threats as exaggerated or as mere idle posturing have learned nothing from the Holocaust. But we should not be surprised. There have always been those among us who prefer to mock those who tell uncomfortable truths than squarely face the truth themselves. That is how Zev Jabotinsky was received when he warned the Jews of Poland of the looming Holocaust. This is what he said in 1938, in Warsaw: “It is already THREE years that I am calling upon you, Polish Jewry, who are the crown of World Jewry. I continue to warn you incessantly that a catastrophe is coming closer. I became grey and old in these years, my heart bleeds, that you, dear brother and sisters, do not see the volcano which will soon begin to spit its all-consuming lava… I see that you are not seeing this because you are immersed and sunk in your daily worries… Listen to me in this twelfth hour: In the name of G-d! Let anyone of you save himself, as long as there is still time, and time there is very little.” But the leading Jewish intellectuals of the day ridiculed Jabotinsky, and rather than heed his warning, they attacked him. This is what Sholem Asch, one of our nation’s greatest writers, said about him: “What Jabotinsky is now doing in Poland is going too far. His statement is detrimental to Zionism and to the vital interests of our people… It is disgraceful that these are leaders of a nation.”
I know there are also those who believe that the unique evil of the Holocaust should never be invoked in discussing other threats facing the Jewish people. To do so, they argue, is to belittle the Holocaust and to offend its victims. I totally disagree. On the contrary. To cower from speaking the uncomfortable truth – that today like then, there are those who want to destroy millions of Jewish people – that is to belittle the Holocaust, that is to offend its victims and that is to ignore the lessons.
Not only does the Prime Minister of Israel have the right, when speaking of these existential dangers, to invoke the memory of a third of our nation which was annihilated. It is his duty. There is a memorable scene in Claude Lanzmann’s documentary Shoah that explains this obligation more than anything. In the harsh existence in the Warsaw Ghetto, Leon Feiner of the Bund and Menachem Kirschenbaum of the General Zionists met with Jan Karski from the Polish World War II Resistance Movement. Jan Karski was a decent, sensitive man, and they begged him to appeal to the conscience of the world against the Nazi crimes. They described what was happening, they showed him, but to no avail. They said: “Help us. We have no country of our own, we have no government, and we even have no voice among the nations” They were right. Seventy years ago the Jewish people did not have the national capacity to summon the nations, nor the military might to defend itself. But today things are different. Today we have an army. We have the ability, the duty and the determination to defend ourselves. As Prime Minister of Israel, I will never shy from speaking the truth before the world, no matter how uncomfortable it may seem to some.
I speak the truth at the United Nations; I speak the truth in Washington DC, the capital of our great friend, the United States, and in other important capitals; And I speak the truth here in Jerusalem, on the grounds of Yad VaShem which are saturated with remembrance. I will continue to speak the truth to the world, but first and foremost I must speak it to my own people. I know that my people is strong enough to hear the truth. The truth is that a nuclear-armed Iran is an existential threat of the State of Israel. The truth is that a nuclear-armed Iran is an political threat to other countries throughout the region and a grave threat to the world peace. The truth is that Iran must be stopped from obtaining nuclear weapons. It is the duty of the whole world, but above and beyond, it is OUR duty.
The memory of the Holocaust goes beyond holding memorial services; it is not merely a historical recollection. The memory of the Holocaust obligates us to apply the lessons of the past to ensure the basis of our future. We will never bury our heads in the sand. Senior commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps : "All Vessels Need Iran's Permission to Pass through Strait of Hormuz."
Senior commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps : "All Vessels Need Iran's Permission to Pass through Strait of Hormuz.".(Fars). Tehran - A senior commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps said that all vessels, including the US warships, enter the Persian Gulf waters through the Strait of Hormuz only after they are checked by the IRGC naval forces. "The alien vessels which enter the Persian Gulf via the Strait of Hormuz always provide the needed answers and information to the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) units," Lieutenant Commander of the IRGC Naval Force Alireza Tangsiri said on Wednesday. He further noted the deployment of a US aircraft carrier in the region, and said, "This vessel, similar to the other warships, answered all the questions asked by the IRGC Navy without any problem or making any particular move and then continued the path to its specified destination." In relevant remarks today, Commander of the Iranian Army Major General Ataollah Salehi downplayed deployment of two aircraft carriers by the US in waters near the Persian Gulf, and warned the US naval forces not to approach the red zones announced by the Iranian armed forces. "We have warned them (foreign naval forces) before that some areas in the Persian Gulf are considered by us as zones of threat and they should not stop in those areas," Salehi told FNA on Wednesday. "Of course, they have paid attention to the warning and are respecting it," Salehi underscored. The remarks by the Iranian army commander came as the US announced the deployment of the nuclear-powered USS Enterprise along with the Abraham Lincoln carrier in waters near the Persian Gulf. The US says that the deployment is "routine" and the two carriers will support the American military operations in Afghanistan and anti-piracy efforts off Somalia's coast and in the Gulf of Aden.
Meanwhile Iran’s official news agency reported the country has established headquarters for managing nuclear crises. The report by IRNA said the headquarters will be in charge of monitoring and confronting nuclear threats and pollution as well as improving public awareness, The Associated Press reported. The move is seen a part of preparations for increasing use of nuclear energy. The report also said Fereidoun Abbasi, Iran’s nuclear chief, will run the headquarters operation under the civil defense agency.Hmmmm.........They understood last week that Obama is on their side?Read the full story here.
Obama ready to yield on Iran's nuclear transparency, Israel:Tehran will cheat.(Debka). In the direct, secret exchanges between the US and Iran which led up to the Istanbul talks with the six powers, of Saturday, April 14, President Barack Obama quietly backed off from his demand that Iran “come clean” on its nuclear activities and open up to international inspection, debkafile reports. This concession paved the way for Tehran’s consent to discuss his framework proposal to stop enriching uranium to 20 percent, halt work at its underground facility for higher enrichment near Qom, and export its stockpile of highly enriched uranium for final processing to 20 percent for use in medical isotopes. This would be presented as a deal for settling the nuclear controversy. debkafile’s military sources:
The Iranians may find it worth their while to accept this framework. After all, once sanctions are lifted by the end of June - as Tehran demands - and they are freed of IAEA oversight, the Iranians can go forward with their plans for building a nuclear weapon undisturbed and Washington can celebrate a breakthrough. Israel has not received word of this deal.
debkafile’s Washington sources report that in contrast with the downbeat mood in Israel, Washington is already celebrating its success in resolving the Iranian nuclear conundrum and averting war. Our sources have two points to make in this regard:
1. Tehran has not yet put pen to paper to approve the American proposal and agreed only to move forward in their back-door negotiations without prejudice:
2. Obama will eventually have to level with Israel, the American people and the rest of the world on his deal with Iran. There is no chance of Israel’s Binyamin Netanyahu going along with agreements on the lines under discussion between Washington and Iran, because they would allow Iran to develop nuclear armaments relieved of the hindrances of international oversight and sanctions. The Israeli prime minister, when he addressed the state ceremony marking the annual Holocaust Remembrance Day Wednesday night, spoke at length of the mortal danger a nuclear Iran for the Jewish state. He said those who maintained Israel lacked the military capacity for dealing with the Iranian menace were wrong. “We can and will defend ourselves,” he said.“I won’t stop stating the truth (about Iran) at the UN, in Washington and in Jerusalem.” Israeli Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Strategic Affairs Moshe Ya'alon, sharply criticized the Obama administration for its handling of the nuclear dispute with Iran: "We (Israel) no longer believe in the Americans, and on the Iran issue, we are not in the same boat." “Three years ago, Iran had 1,200 kilos of low enriched uranium; today it has five and a half tons,” he pointed out. Ya'alon also warned that after the way the proceedings went in Istanbul, right after the second round of talks on May 23 in Baghdad, “Israel will review its steps,” Citing the classical Hebrew adage: If I do not watch out for myself, who will? (אם אין אני לי מי לי?).Hmmmmm......As i said from day one"What else did Obama and Erdogan promise Iran?Read the full story here.
Gulf seafood deformities alarm scientists.(AlJazeera). New Orleans, LA - "The fishermen have never seen anything like this," Dr Jim Cowan told Al Jazeera. "And in my 20 years working on red snapper, looking at somewhere between 20 and 30,000 fish, I've never seen anything like this either." Dr Cowan, with Louisiana State University's Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences started hearing about fish with sores and lesions from fishermen in November 2010. Cowan's findings replicate those of others living along vast areas of the Gulf Coast that have been impacted by BP's oil and dispersants. Gulf of Mexico fishermen, scientists and seafood processors have told Al Jazeera they are finding disturbing numbers of mutated shrimp, crab and fish that they believe are deformed by chemicals released during BP's 2010 oil disaster. Along with collapsing fisheries, signs of malignant impact on the regional ecosystem are ominous: horribly mutated shrimp, fish with oozing sores, underdeveloped blue crabs lacking claws, eyeless crabs and shrimp - and interviewees' fingers point towards BP's oil pollution disaster as being the cause. Eyeless shrimp Tracy Kuhns and her husband Mike Roberts, commercial fishers from Barataria, Louisiana, are finding eyeless shrimp. "At the height of the last white shrimp season, in September, one of our friends caught 400 pounds of these," Kuhns told Al Jazeera while showing a sample of the eyeless shrimp. According to Kuhns, at least 50 per cent of the shrimp caught in that period in Barataria Bay, a popular shrimping area that was heavily impacted by BP's oil and dispersants, were eyeless. Kuhns added: "Disturbingly, not only do the shrimp lack eyes, they even lack eye sockets.""Some shrimpers are catching these out in the open Gulf [of Mexico]," she added, "They are also catching them in Alabama and Mississippi. We are also finding eyeless crabs, crabs with their shells soft instead of hard, full grown crabs that are one-fifth their normal size, clawless crabs, and crabs with shells that don't have their usual spikes … they look like they've been burned off by chemicals."Read and see the full story here.
Iranian Ayatollah Javadi-Amoli: "Homosexuals are inferior to dogs and pigs".(Guardian).An influential Iranian cleric who is entitled to issue juristic rulings according to the Sharia law, has condemned western lawmakers involved in the decriminalisation of homosexuality, saying those politicians are lower than animals. Ayatollah Abdollah Javadi-Amoli, an Islamic scholar based in Iran's holy city of Qom, said in a speech among his followers that homosexuals are inferior to dogs and pigs, according to the news website Khabaronline. "If a society commits a new sin, it will face a new punishment," he said while interpreting Qur'anic verses about prophet Lot whose tribe Isalmic scholars say was punished by God for sodomy. "Problems like Aids did not exist before." Citing the Qur'an, Javadi-Amoli said politicians who pass laws in favour of homosexuals are lower than animals. "Even animals ... dogs and pigs don't engage in this disgusting act [homosexuality] but yet they [western politicians] pass laws in favour of them in their parliaments." Homosexuality is punishable by death according to fatwas issued by almost all Iranian clerics. Until recently, Lavat (sodomy for men) was punishable by death for all individuals involved in consensual sexual intercourse. But under new amendments approved recently in the Iranian parliament the person who played an active role will be flogged 100 times if the sex was consensual and he was not married, but the one who played a passive role will still be put to death regardless of his marriage status.
Despite the horrific punishment for homosexuals in Iran, the gay community in the country is alive underground and has won some recognition by coming out in defiance of the regime.
In September 2011, a group of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Iranians launched a campaign on Facebook, highlighting the discrimination against sexual minorities in Iran where homosexuals are put to death.Read the full story here.

Abbas to Seek Implementing Geneva Convention in Palestinian Territory, can we imprison them now for war crimes?
Abbas to Seek Implementing Geneva Convention in Palestinian Territory, can we imprison them now for war crimes?(IMRA).Dr. Aaron Lerner - IMRA: If Mahmoud Abbas is so keen to treat the Palestinian terrorists as soldiers, does he agree to having them being imprisoned for war crimes? Or does Mr. Abbas think that under some bizarre interpretation of the Geneva Convention that it is OK to deliberately target civilians? RAMALLAH, April 17, 2012 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas Tuesday said the Palestinian Authority will seek high contracting parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention to demand implementing the convention in the Palestinian territory, especially regarding Palestinian prisoners. Abbas said on the occasion of the Palestinian Prisoner Day that PA will call for implementing the Geneva Convention on Palestinian prisoners so as to be treated as war prisoners with the entailing basic human rights, in accordance to the international law and resolutions. He stressed that the issue of the prisoners is on the top of the Palestinian leadership’s priority, and called on Palestinians in general and Palestinian prisoners in specific to maintain unity, affirming that the only side making use of division is Israel. Abbas said that despite of Israel’s declared position supporting the two-state solution; it is in fact working on tearing down any possible chance to achieve it.Read the full story here.
Egypt's presidential election, Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi 'favorite' Abdelmoneim Abul Futuh still in the race.
Egypt's presidential election, Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi 'favorite' Abdelmoneim Abul Futuh still in the race.(RTE).First, consider that none other than the Muslim Brotherhood’s leader and top theological scholar – Yusuf al-Qaradawi – has endorsed Abul-Futuh. "I will vote for Abul-Futuh," Qaradawi, the president of the International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS), has told the Qatari newspaper Al-Arab. Dr. Abul-Futuh has unveiled a bid to run in Egypt's presidential elections as an independent. Abul-Futuh has said that he had consulted Sheikh Qaradawi before his decision to run for presidency. Why would al-Qaradawi back the man expelled by the Brotherhood over the man flying its banner as the Ikhwan’s candidate? Second, both al-Qaradawi and Abul-Futuh are practitioners of Muruna – the lifting of prohibitions in order to aspire to a higher calling. In this case, though not confirmed, a public announcement that he is leaving the Brotherhood while secretly retaining membership would be permitted under Muruna.
That leads us to another problem facing Abul-Futuh. According to El-Balad, Futuh is registered as a citizen of Qatar. Under Egyptian law, it is a serious crime to apply for citizenship in a foreign land without permission of the Egyptian government. Interestingly, according to the Muslim World League website, Qaradawi fled to Qatar in the 1970′s and received citizenship there as well, making him a lawbreaker too.Ironically, in response to a question from the White House Press Corps., President Barack Obama’s Press Secretary Jay Carney answered a concern about the Muslim Brotherhood getting a red carpet welcome from the White House, by saying: “The point is that we will judge Egypt’s political actors by how they act, not by their religious affiliation.” Apparently, insidious criminal behavior and eligibility issues of presidential candidates with a certain religious affiliation does not warrant an unfavorable judgment from the office of the President of the United States.Hmmmm......Sounds 'familiar'...?Read the full story here.
Israel marks Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Day beginning Wednesday at sundown.(Israelhayom).By Yael Branovsky, Yori Yalon, Shlomo Cesana, Danny Brenner, Zeev Klein, Nitzi Yakov and The Associated Press.Israel marks Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Day beginning Wednesday at sundown, with events scheduled across the country to memorialize the 6 million Jews who perished in the Holocaust. The national day of commemoration – whose theme this year is "My Brother's Keeper: Jewish Solidarity During the Holocaust" – officially begins at 8 p.m. with the national ceremony at Warsaw Ghetto Square at the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial museum. As in years past, six survivors will light six torches at the ceremony in memory of the 6 million who were murdered by the Nazis during World War II. President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin and Supreme Court President Asher Grunis will attend the ceremony, in addition to 2,500 Holocaust survivors, public figures and Israeli youth. The ceremony will be broadcast live on Israeli television and radio. Holocaust Remembrance Day events continue Thursday as the country grinds to a halt at 10 a.m., when sirens are set to wail across Israeli cities and citizens stand at attention in memory of the victims of the Holocaust. Other memorial ceremonies are scheduled at additional sites in Israel, such as the Ghetto Fighters' Kibbutz and Kibbutz Yad Mordechai, as well as schools, military bases, municipalities and other places of work. Throughout the day, both television and radio broadcast programs about the Holocaust. Some 200,000 Holocaust survivors currently live in Israel, about 70,000 of whom survived concentration camps and ghettos. Many of them live in poverty and previous governments have been criticized for not doing enough to allow them to live out their lives in dignity. However, the cabinet on Tuesday boosted its budget for assisting Holocaust survivors. The government said the basket of services for Holocaust survivors would rise to NIS 225 million ($60 million) for 2012, a 13 percent increase. An additional $13 million will be directed toward increasing monthly stipends for particularly needy survivors. Stipends currently range from $530 to $1,900 each month. Netanyahu told the cabinet that it was urgent to help survivors, adding that as time passes fewer survivors remain alive. "We want to remember those who perished, the 6 million brothers and sisters, and heed the lessons of the Holocaust in order to ensure the future of our people," Netanyahu said. Deputy Minister for Senior Citizen Affairs Lea Nass said many of the remaining survivors had not even tried to claim their government benefits. She said that in recent years, government officials had "succeeded in reaching 120,000 survivors." In 50,000 cases, "we went to their homes in order to help them utilize their rights and receive the government assistance to which they are due," Nass said. Avner Shalev, chairman of Yad Vashem, attended Tuesday's cabinet meeting, which was called to review the government's assistance to survivors and its efforts to commemorate the Holocaust and to showcase examples of private collectibles that the public donated to Yad Vashem over the past year. The personal items were donated as part of the museum's program "Gathering the Fragments," a national campaign to rescue personal items from the time of the Holocaust. Since the campaign was launched this time last year, more than 51,000 items have been collected. At the start of the cabinet meeting, Netanyahu presented one of those items – a shirt belonging to 4-year-old Rafael Denty, who was murdered at Auschwitz. "These items are being collected into a single fabric that provides tangible documentation of the disaster that befell the Jewish people," the prime minister said. As in other years, Jewish teens from Israel and elsewhere will take part in the March of the Living trip to Poland, where they will march from Auschwitz to Birkenau on Holocaust Remembrance Day, and then travel to Israel for Israeli Memorial Day and Independence Day. The march in Poland marks the 25th anniversary of the founding of the educational journey, and this year will focus on allied soldiers who liberated the concentration camps 67 years ago.
For the first time in March of the Living’s history, Israel Police Commissioner Insp. Gen. Yohanan Danino will take part in the event. He is scheduled to arrive in Krakow, Poland, on Wednesday and will officiate at the opening ceremony honoring the camps' liberators. Danino is expected to tell them, "I stand before you, the liberators of concentration camps and the saviors of the survivors, and in the name of the state of Israel and its people, army, and police forces, I thank you and salute you."
On Thursday, Danino will lead a delegation of 200 Israel Police officers on the march. Some 10,000 people are to take part in the march on Thursday, including Holocaust survivors, Jewish youths from 48 countries around the world, Tel Aviv's Chief Rabbi Meir Lau, and hundreds of World War II veterans from different countries, who fought against the Nazis. One of the participants from the Israel Police is Menachem Frenkel, 76, who was deported to a concentration camp from his home in Belgium when he was 4. Frenkel's father died at Auschwitz. "For me, marching in Auschwitz in an Israeli police uniform is like coming full circle," Frenkel said. Frenkel has been volunteering with the Israel Police for 11 years. He was born in Belgium, and his family fled to France after the Nazi invasion. As his family did not have French citizenship, they had no protection against Nazi forces. "Because of the great hunger, my father had to sign us up for food stamps," Frenkel said. "It didn't take long for the Nazis to find us and send us to a concentration camp, from which my father was sent to Auschwitz where he was murdered." Frenkel survived the war, as did his mother and sister, and they moved to Israel together. "The state has done a great deal for us and I decided I have to give something back," he said of his decision to volunteer for the police following his retirement. "I have already visited Poland since the war, but this year is different – I returned in a police uniform. I will march proudly to Auschwitz. It will be extremely powerful and emotional to arrive at the gas chambers in my uniform, knowing that my father was killed there."Read the full story here.
During a trip through the city of Bandar-Abbas last week, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was confronted first hand by citizens of his country who were upset about their economic standing, while he was traveling in an automobile. Footage of the incident has just recently been uploaded onto YouTube. The video shows a woman dressed in all-black, jumping onto the car of the Iranian President. She proceeds to tell him about her poor economic situation while sitting on the car. Just before she got onto the vehicle, a man is seen and heard screaming, “I’m hungry, I’m hungry” near the side of Ahmadinejad’s car. Economic sanctions have been imposed on Iran by the United States and the European Union in an attempt to deter Iran from pursuing its nuclear program without negotiating an international agreement. Ahmadinejad just recently claimed that Iran can last “2-3 years” with the oil embargoes and sanctions imposed on the country.Source here.
Official fears from U.S. and UK over President Obama's 'anti-American' and 'anti-white' father.(DailyMail).In his three years as U.S. president, Barack Obama has been dogged by claims he is not patriotic enough. Now it emerges that similar fears were expressed about his father, who was categorised with others as ‘anti-American and anti-white’ when he moved to the United States in 1959. Mr Obama Snr had grown up in Kenya under British rule and aroused the fears of both colonial officers and American officials when he won a chance to study in Hawaii. The officials felt Kenyan students were ‘academically inferior’ with a ‘bad reputation’ for turning anti-American. A memo from a British diplomat in Washington to Whitehall — released today by the National Archives in West London — sets out their concerns about the young Kenyans. Dated September 1, 1959, it says: ‘I have discussed with the State Department. They are as disturbed about these developments as we are. They point out that Kenya students have a bad reputation over here for falling into the wrong hands and for becoming both anti-American and anti-white.’ In one of the Foreign Office files, the future president’s father appears on a list of Kenyan students as ‘OBAMA, Barack H’ — they shared the same name. At the age of 23, he enrolled at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu to study economics with classmates including Ann Dunham, a 17-year-old white American from Kansas. The couple had a short marriage that led to the birth in 1961 of the future president, Barack Obama II. Mr Obama Snr was among 100 or so Kenyan students brought to America by the African American Students Foundation. U.S. and British officials were deeply suspicious of this outfit, observing that the AASF — though backed by singer Harry Belafonte and actor Sidney Poitier — had links to a Kenyan nationalist leader. ‘The motives behind this enterprise, therefore, seem more political than educational,’ warned a letter from the British Embassy in Washington. It added: ‘The arrival here of these students, many of them of indifferent academic calibre and ill-prepared for the venture, is likely to give rise to difficult problems.’ Mr Obama Snr, who died in 1982, is not singled out for concern in any of the documents. After leaving Hawaii he took a PhD in economics at Harvard and later became a senior economist with the Kenyan government. Read the full story here.
Obama: I Ate Dog Meat, snake meat and roasted grasshopper.(DailyCaller).Hey, if we’re going to talk about how presidential candidates treated dogs decades ago, let’s talk about how presidential candidates treated dogs decades ago. Can you name the author of this quote? “With Lolo, I learned how to eat small green chill peppers raw with dinner (plenty of rice), and, away from the dinner table, I was introduced to dog meat (tough), snake meat (tougher), and roasted grasshopper (crunchy). Like many Indonesians, Lolo followed a brand of Islam that could make room for the remnants of more ancient animist and Hindu faiths. He explained that a man took on the powers of whatever he ate: One day soon, he promised, he would bring home a piece of tiger meat for us to share.” Give up? That’s Barack Obama, writing about his childhood with his stepfather Lolo Soetoro in Indonesia, from Chapter Two of his bestseller Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance.Hmmmm......."He explained that a man took on the powers of whatever he ate".....they talk about me like a dog suddenly makes more sense to me.Read the full story here.

War Game: Israeli Air Strike Deals Severe Blow to Iran Nukes.(INN). In a simulation war game featuring Israelis in senior positions, Israel loses 10 fighter jets in a strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities and manages to set back the Iranian nuclear program by seven years. An angry President Barack Obama takes no steps against Israel but also refuses to intervene on its side. In the war game, conducted by Makor Rishon newspaper, the strike takes place on October 16, 2012, just three weeks before the U.S. election. The simulation was carried out with the participation of former Government Secretary Yisrael Maimon as a member of the “Octet” of trusted ministers and Home Front Minister; Iran expert Dr. Eldad Pardo as the Iranian regime; Maj. Gen. (ret.) Eitan Ben Eliyahu as a senior member of the Octet; Begin-Sadat Center Chairman Prof. Efraim Inbar as the Prime Minister; Dr. Mordechai Kedar as “the Palestinians,” Hizbullah and the Arab countries; journalist Amit Segal as Israeli and world press; journalist Ofer Shelach as Preient Barack Obama and Makor Rishon journalist Amnon Lord as game administrator. According to the game’s premise, on October 14 and 15, four independent and reliable Mossad intelligence sources indicate that Iran has begun transferring its strategic nuclear equipment to underground sites in Qom. Military Intelligence, meanwhile, determines that Iran was ready to enrich weapons-grade uranium. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu lulls the press into complacency by maintaining a seemingly regular schedule in Jerusalem. In the pre-dawn hours of October 16, the IDF launches Operation Yahalom (“Diamond”). The nuclear sites at Natanz and Arak are bombed, as are several other nuclear plants and research centers. Ten IAF jets are shot down. President Obama receives word of the strike when he is speaking to 350 rabbis in Florida.
He convenes a consultation and says that Israel’s “excuse” for bombing is “irrelevant” because while Iran’s nuclear facilities may become immune to an Israeli attack by moving underground, they will not become immune to a U.S. attack. The timing of the strike “basically amounts to an intervention in the elections,” Obama adds. “The attack will have immediate repercussions influencing the election considerations of voters here, such as the expected rise in the price of oil. Israel could have waited until after the elecions.”
In the simulation, the formal White House announcement calls on Israel to cease hostilities but does not place sanctions on it or threaten it. On the other hand, it offers no assistance. “Israel is responsible for its own fate,” it says. “It went against our wishes, and therefore we do not offer it a military umbrella of protection against military responses by Iran or its proxies.”
Iran sends 1,500 tanks toward the border with Iraq and instructs Hizbullah to fire missiles at Israel. It also launches a series of large scale terror actions and fires missiles from Lebanon and from its own territory at hi-tech targets in Herzliya, suceeding in destroying Intel’s headquarters. A suicide bomber kills a large number of cadets in the IDF’s hi-tech Talpiyot program. Low-level radiation is released in Tel Aviv by a “dirty bomb.” In the war game, Israeli media shows surprising solidarity and unity on the day of the attack, initially sparing the government from criticism. Republican candidate Mitt Romney calls upon Obama to give Israel his backing “immediately.” Obama, meanwhile, threatens an Israeli minister who speaks with him on the phone: “I may still be president on November 7. This will have a price, as far as you are concerned. I will not elaborate right now, but you should take this into consideration.”
Iran decides to try and drive a wedge between Israel and the U.S.. It therefore tells the U.S. it will supply it with as much oil as it needs, in the hope of helping Obama get reelected. In late October, its agents blow up a car bomb in Tel Aviv and fire a missile at an El Al jet from a ship in the Mediterranean, killing 300 people. Meanwhile, intelligence indicates that Iran’s nuclear program has been set back 7 years by the Israeli strikes. With U.S. elections days away, Obama decides that “enough is enough” and begins to threaten Iran with a U.S. attack if it does not cease its hostilities against Israel. Whether real life will be anything like the simulation by Makor Rishon remains to be seen.Hmmmmm........The latter part seems doubtful. more like Obama blames Israel for the current economic crisis in America, and promises actions against Israel once reelected.Read the full story here.
Global Cooling: be afraid........be very afraid.(Telegraph).In Perth, Australia I'm staying with one of the country's most brilliant polymaths David Archibald. This morning, he treated to me to a scary presentation he recently delivered to the Institute of World Policy in Washington DC, where he is a visiting fellow. The title is Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, representing the four threats which Archibald believes are the ones we should most fear. The four horsemen, i.e. great challenges the world will soon have to face, are: a decreasing extraction of oil, causing growing prices of energy and, by extension, food; Pakistan's nuclear weapons program, which threatens proliferation and, perhaps, even a nuclear war in the region; rapid population growth in the Middle East and North Africa coupled with higher food imports in those regions, which spells mass starvation; and a 210-year climate cooling cycle. I'm not sure I'm quite as pessimistic as Archibald is on peak oil and shale gas – the latter, he estimates, is only good for another twenty years (the real energy solution, he reckons, is thorium reactors). But the area where I really hope he is wrong is on global cooling. If his analysis of declining sunspot activity is correct, then global mean temperatures are going to decline by about 2 degrees C by 2040 – completely undoing all that lovely beneficial (but rather meagre 0.8 degrees C) global warming we have experienced in the last 150 years. It will mean longer, colder winters and cooler summers. But far worse than the discomfort will be the effect it has on grain production. The shift in latitudes at which corn and wheat can be grown will be the equivalent of losing a belt 300 kilometres wide all around the world, leading to the loss perhaps 400 million tonnes per annum of grain. The result will be rising food prices, grain shortages – and a 50 per cent likelihood of the kind of volcanic-influenced disaster that led to the horrors of the 1816 Year Without A Summer, precipitating crop failures, weird Turner sunsets, and 200,000 deaths in Europe alone. Still there will be at least one consolation. Phil Jones, Michael Mann, James Hansen and Al Gore will all, most likely, still be around to see their entire religious belief system collapsing around their ears.Read and see the full story here.
Defense Minister Ehud Barak:"Israel did not promise the U.S. that it would abstain from attacking Iran while negotiations are going on".
Defense Minister Ehud Barak:"Israel did not promise the U.S. that it would abstain from attacking Iran while negotiations are going on".(JTA).Jerusalem -- Israel did not promise the United States that it would abstain from attacking Iran while negotiations are going on, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said. "We are not committing to anything," Barak told Israel's Army Radio during an interview from Bogota, Colombia. He added that Israel's dialogue on the subject with America is "direct and open." Barak said the current negotiations between Iran and six world powers on Iran's nuclear program taking place in Istanbul, Turkey, need to be "purposeful and results oriented. They need to clarify if Iran is genuinely willing to stop its military nuclear program or not. "For this we don't need months upon months. It requires a few direct meetings where all the demands are put on the table. There you can see if the other side is playing for time, drawing it out through the year, or if indeed the other side is genuinely striving to find a solution." Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that the decision to continue the talks in five weeks in Baghdad amounts to a "freebie" for Iran, allowing them to continue to enrich uranium " without any limitation, any inhibition." Barak, who is on a five-day visit to Colombia and the United States, told Israel Radio that Israel believes that the talks "will probably not have an impact or bring the Iranians to cease their nuclear program." "Of course we will be happy to be proven wrong," he added. Barak said "The world must find a way of preventing this; not for Israel, but for the stability and peace of the world." Iran says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes; the West fears that Iran may be enriching uranium in order to produce a nuclear bomb. Netanyahu has called on the international community to halt Iran's nuclear production by force if necessary, and has warned that the window in which to prevent Iran's production of a nuclear bomb is rapidly closing. Obama responded to Netanyahu's "freebie" accusation Sunday, saying that "The notion that somehow we've given something away or a 'freebie' would indicate Iran has gotten something. In fact, they've got some of the toughest sanctions that they're going to be facing coming up in just a few months if they don't take advantage of these talks." Barak will be meeting with his U.S. counterpart, Leon Panetta, on Thursday in Washington.Hmmmm.........Richard Dalton, former British Ambassador to Libya and to Iran:"It should be possible to work out a first step this year based on the much-discussed end of 20% enrichment in return for cooperation over fuel supply for the Tehran Research reactor. But talk of a final and closing window for talks is unrealistic: the US simply cannot go far enough for a deal during an election campaign". A full year will be needed.Read the full story here.

Bishop Daniel R. Jenky: "President Obama seems intent on following a similar path of Hitler and Stalin".(WE).In a homily delivered Saturday, Bishop Daniel R. Jenky of the Diocese of Peoria, Illinois challenged President Obama's HHS mandate, suggesting that the president was following the same path as Hitler and Stalin. "Hitler and Stalin, at their better moments, would just barely tolerate some churches remaining open, but would not tolerate any competition with the state in education, social services, and health care," Jenky said. "In clear violation of our First Amendment rights, Barack Obama – with his radical, pro abortion and extreme secularist agenda, now seems intent on following a similar path." Jenky added. Jenky reminded the men of the Catholic Church's history of surviving threats from Jihadi, Nazism and Communism and called them to stand up for their faith. Denouncing the "entrenched corruption and sheer incompetence" of the Illinois state government, Jenky also criticized Catholic politicians who "pretend to be Catholic." "May God have mercy on the souls of those politicians who pretend to be Catholic in church, but in their public lives, rather like Judas Iscariot, betray Jesus Christ by how they vote and how they willingly cooperate with intrinsic evil,""This is not a battle in which any believing Catholic can remain neutral" he said.Read the full story here.
Re Election worried by gas prices, Obama seeks new oil market crackdown.(Yahoo).U.S. President Barack Obama, whose political fortunes are threatened by rising gasoline prices, proposed new measures on Tuesday to reduce oil market manipulation that are unlikely to get support from a divided Congress. Obama called on lawmakers to raise civil and criminal penalties on individuals and companies involved in manipulative practices. He also pressed for more money to fund the agency charged with policing the markets to hire "more cops" for oversight and upgrade old technology. Republicans, who blame Obama's energy policies for high gasoline prices, called the effort a political gimmick. "We can't afford a situation where speculators artificially manipulate markets by buying up oil, creating the perception of a shortage, and driving prices higher, only to flip the oil for a quick profit," Obama said in the White House Rose Garden. "We should strengthen protections for American consumers, not gut them," he said. Republicans said the new measures would not help Americans struggling with high gasoline prices. "It probably polls pretty well, but I guarantee it won't do a thing to lower prices at the pump," said Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell. "The president has all the tools available to him if he believes the oil market is being manipulated," said John Boehner, the Republican speaker of the House of Representatives.
Gasoline prices have surged nearly 50 cents since late January, as tensions in the Middle East and supply disruptions bolstered oil costs. While prices at the pump have eased slightly in the past two weeks, gasoline remains around $3.92 a gallon nationwide. Obama has spent weeks trying to show he is on the case to bring down energy costs over the short- and long-term. Senior administration officials, speaking to reporters on a conference call, said increased volatility in oil markets justified the need for the crackdown. They could not point to specific increases in oil market speculation, however."Every time prices go up, there's some sort of ruckus," said Marc Spitzer, a former commissioner for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission who was appointed by President George W. Bush. Spitzer said the proposed measures may satisfy a populist urge to bash speculators, but if implemented they would likely cause a modest increase in volatility, instead of bringing down prices. Hmmmmm........"Republicans, who blame Obama's energy policies for high gasoline prices, called the effort a political gimmick."How many of you are aware Sunoco, Conoco Phillips and The HESS Corp are all closing US oil refineries? Not many, as the media refuses to give this HUGE story coverage. My guess is that if Americans understood the complete truth to how we are being sold out, and enslaved there just might be the much needed revolution to turn this country around. Last September, both Sunoco and Conoco Phillips announced plant closing, effecting thousands of workers. Sunoco announced they are completely getting out of the oil industry. Closing up shop. They are done with the US oil industry. Sunoco is closing it's 2 oil refineries in July 2012 in Philadelphia and Marcus Hook, Pa. Those 2 facilities alone process over 500,000 barrels a day. Also announced last year, ConocoPhillips announced 2 plant closing for sure in Trainer, PA and Bayway, NJ., the other 3 plants are undecided as of today.
Conoco also announced they were closing their Alaskan refining facility: Just a week ago, the US 3rd largest oil refinery owned and operated by The HESS Corp just announced it's permanent closure. Costing over 2,000 jobs, and effecting 950 contractors.
Refineries on the East Coast of the US supply 40% of the gasoline sales and 60% of the diesel and other fuel oils. Of that, HALF that comes from the Sunoco and Conoco Phillips plant closures. When Conoco Phillips announced that it was closing the Trainer refinery, Willie Chiang, then ConocoPhillips' Senior Vice President of Refining, Marketing, Transportation and Commercial, noted that their decision to sell, like Sunoco's, was based on unfavorable economics caused by a competitive and difficult market environment characterized by "...product imports, weakness in motor fuel demand, and costly regulatory requirements." They are ALL closing up shop due to government regulations, union demands and excessive operating costs brought on by the Government regulations. Then you have the unions, led by Barry's buddy Leo Gerard saying they will close ALL US oil refineries starting from the east coast to west coast today. Think gas and energy costs are high right now.......wait 6 months. You haven't seen anything yet. How can anyone expect any company to do business with an anti-American, hostile government out of control? You can't. That is why we are seeing a mass exodus, across the board in every industry in the US LEAVING.Hmmmm.......You will obey and buy electric cars.Read the full story here.
Did Ted Nugent Threaten to Assassinate President Obama?Secret Service Is On it..(TP).Ted Nugent’s threatening remarks about President Obama at the annual National Rifle Association convention in St. Louis have earned him a follow-up conversation with the Secret Service. On Sunday, the singer remarked that “if Barack Obama becomes the president in November again, I will be either be dead or in jail by this time next year.” The Secret Service, which investigates all threats against the President, confirmed to New York Magazine’s Daily Intel blog that they have in fact flagged Nugent’s comment. “We are aware of it, and we’ll conduct an appropriate follow up,” the agent told the magazine. Nugent endorsed Mitt Romney — albeit reluctantly — via Twitter last month, and at least one Romney, middle son Tagg, was excited about the news. Total "Controller-In-Chief" - Obama Admin now Zoning the ocean.(HE).By Audrey Hudson.President Barack Obama has an ambitious plan for Washington bureaucrats to take command of the oceans—and with it control over much of the nation’s energy, fisheries, even recreation in a move described by lawmakers as the ultimate power grab to zone the seas. The massive undertaking also includes control over key inland waterways and rivers that reach hundreds of miles upstream, and began with little fanfare when Obama signed an executive order in 2010 to protect the aquatic environment. “This one to me could be the sleeping power grab that Americans will wake up to one day and wonder what the heck hit them,” said Rep. Bill Flores (R –Texas).
“This is pure administrative fiat,” said Sen. David Vitter (R –La.). “It’s very troubling.” “This is purely a unilateral administrative action with no real congressional input or oversight,” Vitter said. “I think it clearly threatens to have a big impact on a lot of industry, starting with energy, oil and gas, and fishing.” But in his zeal to curb sea sprawl, lawmakers say the president’s executive order also gives Washington officialdom unprecedented reach to control land use as well.
“The order says they shall develop a scheme for oversight of oceans and all the sources thereof,” Flores said. “So you could have a snowflake land on Pikes Peak and ultimately it’s going to wind up in the water, so as a result they could regulate on every square inch of U.S. soil.” The effects of Obama’s far-reaching policy would be felt by numerous industries including wind farms and other renewable energy undertakings, ports, shipping vessels, and other marine commerce, and upstream it would also affect mining, timber, even farming. It will impact consumers directly through rules addressing recreational uses such as fishing and boating, and restricting the multiple use development of the ocean’s resources would also increase the cost of fuel and food, lawmakers say. The idea to create a policy to oversee multiple uses of the ocean originated during the Bush administration, but after push back from within the ranks, including Vitter, the idea was dropped. Critics of this revised plan say it is more narrowly focused, and that the Obama administration is taking their marching orders from environmental groups who want to move away from a multiple-use ocean policy to a no-use policy.
“If you look at the catalyst for the entire initiative, it comes from the playbook of environmental groups that think the ocean ought to be controlled by the federal government,” Flores said. Added Vitter: “This (Obama) administration is more aggressive and left-leaning, and they are going whole hog. I think it’s clearly a threat, and in terms of negatively impacting jobs, it’s a very, very big threat.” The ocean policy has already impacted oil and gas development in the Mid and South Atlantic, where more environmental analysis is now required to determine whether new studies must also be conducted to determine its safety, according to Interior Department Secretary Ken Salazar. Jack Belcher, managing director of the Ocean Policy Coalition that represents numerous industries affected by Obama’s initiative including oil companies, says Salazar’s action is one example of how the administration is already blocking new production “on a policy that hasn’t even been developed yet.”
Still in its draft form, the plan released in January contains vague goals that call for more than 150 milestones to be accomplished by next year that will determine how the ecosystem is managed. “Right now, we can only speculate on the impacts,” Belcher said. “But all of a sudden, there’s a new authority creating a new plan that may not allow oil and gas leasing or development in (some) areas.” “This has largely been completely under the radar,” Vitter said. “And that is exactly the way the administration and their environmental allies want to do it—announce the administrative fiat is complete and that we have this new way of life that nobody knew was coming.” “The Obama administration continues to move forward with zoning the oceans through implementation of the president’s National Ocean Policy without requesting funding specifically for this broad initiative and without answering basic questions about how funds are currently being diverted from other missions to fund this initiative,” Hastings said in an April 2 letter to Rogers. “The last thing we need is the federal government running the damn ocean and a bunch of bureaucrats running around trying to determine whether you can fish in one spot or another,” said Dan Kish, senior vice president for policy at the Institute for Energy Research.Hmmmm.......“Withholding information is the essence of tyranny. Nasrallah also revealed, in a pre-recorded interview broadcast on the Moscow-based, English-language Russia Today news channel, that Hezbollah had contacted the Syrian opposition to urge them to enter into talks with Assad. “But they rejected dialogue,” he said. “Right from the beginning we have had a regime that is willing to undergo reforms and prepared for dialogue,” he added. “On the other side you have an opposition which is not prepared for dialogue and it is not prepared to accept reforms. All it wants is to bring down the regime.” Nasrallah also said "civil war is the only alternative” to dialogue in Syria. "And this is exactly what America and Israel want.”
Canada Christian College will place posters in Toronto subway.(TS).Toronto - A prominent Christian group will attempt to counter controversial Islamic posters currently placed in TTC stations by putting up its own religiously-charged advertisements. Canada Christian College director Charles McVety confirmed Monday that the college has been granted permission by the TTC to place as many as 50 posters in yet-to-be-determined stations.
The posters, which McVety plans to have up as of May 1, quote a Biblical passage of Jesus saying, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” The approval of the Christian posters comes after controversy generated by ads put up in some subway stations in January by a Toronto-based Islamic group. The ads — posted by Walk-in Islamic Infocentre — state: “There is no god but Allah.” The posters have drawn criticism from other religious groups which charge the posters promote intolerance. McVety had recently been in talks with both the Canadian Hindu Advocacy and the Jewish Defense League on how to collectively counter the message of the Islamic posters.McVedy called the approval of the Christian ads a “game changer” in his battle against the Islamic placards, and a victory for free speech. “My push was freedom of speech ... We (Christians) had not had freedom of speech,” McVedy said. “But we have tested that, and we’ve been approved.”
Meanwhile, the other two groups will continue to fight to have the Islamic posters removed from TTC property. Ron Banerjee, of the Canadian Hindu Advocacy, and Meir Weinstein, of the Canadian chapter of the JDL, confirmed they’ll work together to campaign against the posters, which Weinstein branded as “grossly offensive.”Last week, the Canadian Hindu Advocacy sent an e-mail to TTC chair Karen Stintz, requesting an “urgent meeting ... to discuss the issue.”Hmmmm......“Violence does not build up the kingdom of God, the kingdom of humanity. Firefighters battle flames at Suez oil refinery,“We have lost 5 million pounds, so far! God save us”.
Firefighters battle flames at Suez oil refinery,“We have lost 5 million pounds, so far! God save us”.(Ahram). The residents of port city of Suez in north eastern Egypt experienced more moments of fear after a new oil depot, the fifth in the past three days, exploded inside the Nasr Oil Company on dawn Tuesday. The resulting blaze set a fire truck on fire and caused the injury of 14 workers. The injured were transported to a number of hopsitals after the incident and are currently undergoing treatment. Following the daily dawn prayers, the mosques in the city were used to call on the residents to keep alert after the flames were reported to have spread approximately 20 metres towards the bay area. The explosions in the storage facilities have so far claimed the lives of two people, a worker and a firefighter, and left dozens injured. It was reported that Tuesday's explosion took place shortly after a crack in the depot became visible to the naked eye. Reacting to the disturbing incident that has engulfed the Suez canal city and kept its residents on edge for days, the Chief of Suez Security Adel Refaat had announced that the situation was under control, as at least 30 fire trucks have been called on to the scene to contain the fire. Head of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi sent fire fighting planes on Saturday to take part in the efforts to contain the blaze.Until today, it is not known what initially caused the fire. However, some workers at the refinery reported that they saw a car burning shortly before the first oil tank exploded.
The Nasr Petroleum Company’s president, Kamal Safaan, has called on the government to deploy the military to save the city of Suez.“We have lost 5 million pounds, so far! God save us”, Safaan told Bikyamasr.com The financial losses that have ensued as a result of the explosions have been reported to amount to LE10 million, but could be as high as LE30 million.Read the full story here, more here and here.
Commander Lt. Col. Shalom Eisner who hit Danish protester is a Second Lebanon War hero.(JP).The IDF investigation of the beating of a Danish agent provocateur Andreas Ayas of the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) by Deputy Bik’ah Brigade Commander Lt. Col. Shalom Eisner, will be presented Tuesday the the IDF Chief of Staff, and it appears that the report will recommend to remove Lt. Col. Eisner from office, but keep him in the army. However, the legal proceedings against Eisner will continue, and may affect his future career. The investigation was headed by Central Command Chief, Gen. Nitzan Alon. On Tuesday, Denmark has demanded clarification from Israel about the incident and the investigation. The Foreign Office updated the Danish Ambassador in Israel about the steps taken since the exposure of the video online. President Shimon Peres attempted to minimize the damage when he said that “The IDF responded clearly, and we must await its conclusions. It’s an isolated incident that should be investigated, and we should avoid far-reaching conclusions.”
Beyond the moral aspects, the investigation also dealt with the operational conduct of the forces in the field during the event. In this respect, the report found failures, primarily in inadequate preliminary preparations for the event; the force that was sent into the area was too small and did not receive police support as required. On Monday, 83 reserves officers and soldiers sent the Defense Minister and the IDF Chief of Staff a letter supporting the Eisner, who had been suspended from his post. Hagit Rein, grieving mother of the late Major B’naya Rein who was killed in the Second Lebanon War and whose body was recovered by Eisner under fire, called the Army Radio to express her dismay at the way Eisner was being judged by the “media court.”
During that war, B’naya Rein assembled a special force to assist damaged tanks. He was killed on that mission for which he had volunteered, and his body remained in enemy territory. At the command level it was decided that rescuing the body was too dangerous, according to the reservists’ letter. Then it was decided they lacked the necessary resources for a rescue mission. After three days, Shalom Eisner, who was then commander of an armored battalion, heard about the abandoned body and said it was unacceptable that the body of an army officer would be lying on the ground while his parents were waiting for him at home. Eisner took a jeep, recall his fellow officers and soldiers, put on a flak jacket and went out to get B’naya. “Surrounded by burned-out tanks, missiles flying in every direction, he just went out into the field, loaded the body and brought it back.” Lt. Col. Eisner’s supporters expressed their complete faith in him “as a man, as a friend and as a moral commander.”Read the full story here.

Osama bin Laden's Widows and Children to be deported from Pakistan.(Telegraph). Bin Laden's three widows and their children were detained by the Pakistani authorities after the Saudi was killed in an operation in the garrison town of Abbottabad, north of Islamabad, last May. The news came as Washington and Islamabad try to patch up their relationship, which was badly damaged by the revelation that the world's most wanted man was living a stone's throw from Pakistan's elite military academy. Two weeks ago a court sentenced the widows and two of bin Laden's older daughters to 45 days' detention on charges of illegal entry and residency in Pakistan and ordered their deportation as soon as possible. They are due to complete the sentence, served in an Islamabad villa designated by authorities as a "sub-jail", on Tuesday, as it officially began when they were formally arrested on the charges on March 3. "They will go tonight or tomorrow early in the morning. After 12 tonight they can be deported any time," their lawyer Muhammad Aamir told AFP on Tuesday.Aamir said the family – who number 12, including bin Laden's three widows, eight children and one grandchild – would probably initially go to Saudi Arabia. He said bin Laden's youngest and reportedly favourite wife, Amal Abdulfattah, who is Yemeni, may be sent to Yemen afterwards with her five children. A Pakistani intelligence official confirmed to AFP that the family was expected to be deported "sometime around midnight" and said "most likely they would be flown to Saudi Arabia."Read the full story here.

"Licenced To Demolish" - James Bond stuntman crashes in İstanbul bazaar shop.(HD).A 400-year-old wooden building on Aynacılar Street in the Grand Bazaar was damaged on the first day of Istanbul filming of the latest addition to the James Bond series, 'Skyfall,' yesterday, when motorcycles, which were driven in front of a jewelry shop, missed the corner and hit the structure, daily Hürriyet reported. The shop, called Boybeyi, provides the jewelry used in the popular Turkish TV series “Muhteşem Yüzyıl” (A Magnificent Century). The shop window and the marble of the building were broken during the accident and its columns also suffered damage. The owner of the jewelry shop, Mete Boybeyi, called the police following the incident. “This is one of the oldest buildings in the bazaar. A fire could have started because of sparks from the motorcycle, and this building could have burned down. We did not even know that there would be filming in this area. Some shop owners said their shop windows were also broken. Permission for the shooting was obtained from the Grand Bazaar Artisans Association but nobody asked us,” Boybeyi said. "This place is regulated by the Council of Monuments. We can't even change our window without their permission," he said. The bureaucracy involved in replacing the window would take quite some time, Boybeyi said, and that would mean the shop would remain shut and a loss of revenue. The production company will pay daily sums to shop owners on the street to cover their three-week loss. Owners will open their shops but will not be able to make any sales; only döner sellers will continue working in the shooting area.Read the full story here.

Former Archbishop of Canterbury Lord Carey: "Christians in Britain are being ‘vilified’".(CT).The former Archbishop of Canterbury has hit out at what he sees as the vilification of Christians in Britain. In a submission to the European Court of Human Rights, Lord Carey said that Christians are being “vilified” by the state and face being sacked for their faith. His appeal was made in connection to the cases of four British Christians who have experienced disciplinary action in the workplace for expressing their faith. Two of the cases relate to wearing the cross at work. In the submission seen by the Daily Telegraph, Lord Carey said there was a “drive to remove Judaeo-Christian values from the public square” and that some believers were being treated as “bigots”. “In a country where Christians can be sacked for manifesting their faith, are vilified by State bodies, are in fear of reprisal or even arrest for expressing their views on sexual ethics, something is very wrong,” he said. “It affects the moral and ethical compass of the United Kingdom. Christians are excluded from many sectors of employment simply because of their beliefs; beliefs which are not contrary to the public good.” He goes on to argue that the rulings in recent court cases involving Christians who tried to manifest their faith have left religious freedom without “any substantive effect” in Britain. “It is now Christians who are persecuted; often sought out and framed by homosexual activists,” he said. “Christians are driven underground. There appears to be a clear animus to the Christian faith and to Judaeo-Christian values. Clearly the courts of the United Kingdom require guidance.”Read the full story here.
