  • HT:Forbes. How ObamaCare May Disrupt Your Health Plan.Imagine if you ran a business, and one day the government told you that you would be fined if you: (1) minimized unnecessary expenses; (2) hired workers to specialize in customer service; (3) invested resources in order to ensure you wouldn’t get victimized by fraud. What would you do? Think quickly: because three months from now, this very system will be the law of the land for our nation’s health insurers.Read the full story here.Click here for comments.

  • Obama’s Top 10 Broken Promises (So Far). There’s some bad news… and then there’s some good news.First the bad news: President Barack Obama made so many campaign promises it was hard to choose just ten. Not that we wanted most of these promises to be kept, of course. Now for the good news: No matter what he promised, Obama has been confronted with the reality that he can’t just wave a magic wand and “change” whatever he wants. It is also satisfying to see how pitiful of a job Obama has done with the “Yes We Can” agenda in his first 20 months in office.Number 10: Target Every Source Of Fear In The Americas“That is why there will never be true security unless we focus our efforts on targeting every source of fear in the Americas. That’s what I’ll do as president of the United States.”Talk about believing your own publicity! What could he possibly have been thinking to make such an impossible promise. But then again, when you’re gathering a voter base that hasn’t a clue about defense issues…Read the full story here.Click here for comments.

  • At Harvard, Groupthink About Islam (The appalling hypocrisy of Martin Peretz’s critics).Last Saturday, at a university-sponsored event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Harvard’s Committee on Degrees in Social Studies, a group of former students launched a research fund in honor of Martin Peretz, a former teacher in the program and the longtime editor in chief of the New Republic. After the event adjourned, the afternoon turned ugly as police had to protect Mr. Peretz while he walked across campus surrounded by a mob of screaming students. For that final sentence, Mr. Peretz apologized and sought atonement. Nonetheless, his column set off a firestorm. The Harvard Crimson reported over 500 protests against the honorary research fund by alumni, students and staff.Harvard accepted the money to create the fund. Yet a member of the Social Studies Standing Committee extolled the protest, while also declaring that everyone on the committee “was—without exception—appalled by Peretz’s comments.”Why not, then, organize an open forum where Mr. Peretz might engage with his critics? That, presumably, was out of the question: better to ensure that students know which side “everyone—without exception” is on.Read the full story here.Click here for comments.

  • American College Student Gunned Down, Kidnapped And Tortured In Secret Prison.Lawyers for US citizen held in Yemen say that American agents arranged his arrest and interrogated him for weeks.According to the report Sharif Mobley was an American citizen living in Yemen attending college. After another citizen of Yemen attempted to blow up an airplane in Detroit Sharif Mobley tried to return to America with his son but was denied.Instead the U.S Government had eight masked men jump from two white vans and gun him down in the middle of the street. He was then drug off to a secret torture camp and tortured for months. While it is not possible to independently verify the account of Sharif Mobley’s arrest given by his legal team, few analysts in Yemen doubt that coordination on security operations is occurring at a senior level between US and Yemeni authorities.“There are incidents where we see high level cooperation, and others where that cooperation breaks down,” says Abdul Ghani al-Aryani, a Yemeni political analyst. “If the government of Yemen cooperated in this case, it would be a risk free opportunity to gain credit with the Americans, given the individual in question is an American.”US state department officials contacted by Al Jazeera declined to comment on Mobley’s case, citing concerns over his privacy. The US justice department was contacted to respond to general allegations that the US has played a role in the arrest and interrogation of its own citizens in Yemen, but also refused to comment on the matter. The Pentagon failed to respond to Al Jazeera’s request for comment.Read the full story here.Click here for comments.

  • A Teary Emanuel Gets Dead Fish At White House Send-off.At the 8:30 staff meeting in the Roosevelt Room this morning, departing chief of staff Rahm Emanuel was given a gift by Council of Economic Advisers chair Austan Goolsbee: a dead Asian carp. This was an allusion to the Emanuel legend of his sending a dead fish to a pollster for whom he didn’t care, replicating the scene from The Godfather when the Corleones were alerted of Luca Brasi’s death with a dead fish wrapped in Brasi’s bullet-proof vest. The specific species was a reference to Emanuel’s focus as a member of Congress and White House chief of staff on the aggressive, invasive Asian carp, bane of the Great Lakes, a plankton-devouring creature heading towards Chicago.Said White House press secretary Robert Gibbs: “In Chicago, this is how friends say goodbye.”Yes just keep silent and you won't be sleeping with the fish, now that i made you an offer you can't refuse?Read the full story here.Click here for comments.

Andrew Breitbart & Frank Gaffney: Big Peace, Hamas & the FBI

Andrew Breitbart filled in for Michael Savage on the Savage Nation and spoke with Frank Gaffney about Shariah, the Team B II Report, and the shocking story of known Hamas/Holy Land Foundation unindicted co-conspirator Kifah Mustapha being led around the FBI's National Counter-Terrorism Headquarters.

  • HT:BigPeace.John Brennan Must Go.Among other things, I warned the court that – since shariah obliges its adherents to engage in jihad (holy war), whether through violent means or more stealthy techniques – in my professional judgment, any approval of a proposed 50,000-square feet Islamic Center of Murfreesboro (ICM) required the most careful and informed scrutiny. My testimony was drawn from the analysis and key findings of the pathbreaking Team B II report that have been serialized here in recent days. In particular, I noted that officials at every level of government have been, at best, willfully blind (in the words of Team member and former federal prosecutor Andy McCarthy) to the dangers associated with the so-called “civilization jihad” being waged against this country by the Muslim Brotherhood. At worst, some appear susceptible to charges of “misprision of treason” – a term the U.S. code uses to criminalize a failure to act in the face of evidence of sedition.Speaking of Chicago, that city is the venue for three-days of meetings convened by what some have called “the new Caliphate” – a 56 Muslim nation entity that makes up the international institutional arm of the “civilization jihad” aimed at destroying Western civilization from within. Incredibly, at least three senior White House and State Department officials are among the scheduled participants: Rashad Hussain, the President’s special envoy to the OIC; Farah Pandith, the State Depatment’s outreach coordinator to the Muslim community; and Dalia Mogahed, an adviser to the White House Office of Inter-faith and Neighborhood Initiatives.Hussain was actually scheduled to speak on a panel “moderated” by a representative of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR). The effect of such interactions is unmistakably to legitimize these deeply problematic, shariah-promoting organizations and to facilitate their influence operations against and penetration of the U.S. government.Such perilous behavior is the inevitable result of direction provided by Homeland Security Adviser John Brennan. It is for this reason, among others, that members of Team B II called today for Brennan’s resignation. The former Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, Lieutenant General William G. “Jerry” Boykin put it this way:: r. Brennan is in a position of enormous responsibility. If he lacks an understanding of shariah law and the threat that it presents to America, then he is negligent and I would consider his failure to be a moral one. If he is cognizant of the dangers of shariah law and the aims of those who are driven by a quest to bring it to this nation, and he has been deceptive about the issue with the public and the President of the United States, then I believe that his behavior is criminal. Either way, he should no longer serve as Homeland Security Adviser to the President of the United States. All I can say is, “Amen.”Read the full story here.Click here for comments.

  • HT:BigPeace.FBI-HQ claims Big Peace article on Hamas Operative ‘Totally Fabricated’ and Photo ‘Doctored’.Following an ACT for America email sent to its 150,000 member list earlier this week linking to my Big Peace article from Monday about a known Hamas operative – Kifah Mustapha – who was escorted on a VIP tour of the top-secret National Counterterrorism Center and the FBI training facility at Quantico earlier this month as part of a FBI Citizen Academy, apparently hundreds of ACT members who called the FBI’s Washington D.C. headquarters were told the that the Big Peace article was “totally fabricated” and that the accompanying photo had been “doctored”.(UPDATE: This afternoon, FBI spokesman Paul Bresson confirmed to Fox News that Mustapha’s tour of the NCTC did in fact happen, confirming our initial report, but defended including him in the FBI Citizen Academy program, saying that “he’s a prominent figure in the community.”)"He’s a prominent figure in the community." the same could be said of Rasputin just before the Bolshevik revolution!Read the full story here.Click here for comments.

  • Let them eat cake?First lady Michelle Obama's campaign for healthier school lunches has stalled in Congress after anti-hunger groups and more than 100 Democrats protested the use of food stamp dollars to pay for it.One hundred and six Democrats wrote House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., in August calling the move egregious, saying it was not a vote they would take lightly. Labor unions, anti-poverty groups and even New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg also urged the speaker to reconsider using the food stamp money."It's just plain wrong," said Rep. Jim McGovern, D-Mass., a longtime advocate for childhood nutrition programs. "The way you are going to pay for a child nutrition bill is by dipping into people's food stamps? Give me a break."To no avail. Democrats declined to take up the bill before the November elections, citing many of their members' concerns about the food stamp dollars. Many Republicans opposed the bill as well, saying it was too expensive.Supporters had hoped to pass the bill before Thursday, when many of the child nutrition programs in the bill are scheduled to expire.Read the full story here.Click here for comments.

  • Contemporary Forms of Racism: 'Islamophobia'.Mr. Githu Muigai, Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance made a statement on his written report to the UNHRC September 28, 2010. Mr. Muigai apparently hoped to explain how defamation of religions and in particular, "the serious implications of Islamophobia" impact on the "enjoyment of all human rights by their followers"."Islamophobia" implies irrational fear and loathing of Islam. Since the hijackings, shooting incidents and bombings of the latter third of the last century and the more recent attacks in New York City and Washington D.C., fear and loathing of Islam is hardly irrational. The history of Islam is a 1387 year trail of blood and tears leaving an estimated 270 million innocent victims dead. The Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance has clearly stated an objection to attempting to outlaw "negative stereotyping". His opinion runs counter to the mainstream.Read the full story here.Click here for comments.

  • U.S. Voters Abroad Test Efforts To Expedite Balloting. It's not easy to vote if you're an American living overseas or serving in the military.Hundreds of thousands of ballots requested by military and overseas voters in the 2008 elections were never returned or counted. Many of those voters simply did not get their ballots in time. But a new law this year appears to be turning things around.Take the case of retired Texan Lanny Marcus, who has lived in Cali, Colombia, for the past 15 years, but still feels strongly about voting back home. Every election, Marcus keeps his fingers crossed when he requests an absentee ballot. Will he get the ballot on time? Too often, as in his state's primary this past March — the answer is no."I never got it," Marcus says. "Usually they come a few days before or after the election, but that one never came."So imagine his surprise when he got a message the other day from his county election office in Texas."When I went to my e-mail, I couldn't believe it," he says. "The first time in my life — absentee ballot by e-mail."A few jurisdictions, like some counties in West Virginia, are even experimenting with online voting. That has some voter groups concerned, though, about ballot security. The Overseas Vote Foundation is recommending that anyone who sends their votes electronically also send a backup paper copy, just to be safe.Hmmmmm.....Read the full story here.Click here for comments.

  • Official: Germans, Brits behind Europe terror plot.Eight Germans and two British brothers are at the heart of an al-Qaeda-linked terror plot against European cities, but the plan is still in its early stages, with the suspects calling acquaintances in Europe to plan logistics, a Pakistani intelligence official said on Thursday. One of the Britons died in a recent CIA missile strike, he said. The revelations underscore the role of Pakistan as a haven for many would-be militants with foreign ties, a worrying prospect for Western countries who face additional challenges when tracking terror suspects among citizens who have passports and easier access to their shores. Pakistan, Britain and Germany are tracking the suspects and intercepting their phone calls, the official told The Associated Press. Although he characterized the plot as immature, the Pakistani official warned against underestimating the suspects, whom he said have backing from al-Qaeda, the Pakistani Taliban and the Afghan Taliban, all groups that are separate yet interconnected.“It does not mean that they are not capable of materializing their designs,” the official said. “They are very much working on it.”Read the full story here.Click here for comments.

From the floor to the committee level, the integrity of the House has been compromised,” according to prepared remarks of Boehner’s speech this afternoon at the American Enterprise Institute. He cited, for example, the House’s failure this year to consider a budget resolution and to pass appropriations bills.“The dysfunction has now reached a tipping point — a point at which none of us can credibly deny that it is having a negative impact on the people we serve,” Boehner said.Read the full story here.Click here for comments.

BAGHDAD // Dozens of children born to al Qa’eda fighters in Iraq have been abducted by their fathers, prompting fears they will be brought up abroad as the next generation of Islamist militants.Iraqi women who were forced to marry foreign al Qa’eda volunteers have reported infant boys being snatched away by their husbands and never heard from again. An Iraqi charity working to support the al Qa’eda wives, many of whom were effectively presented as gifts to the militants, said the abductions posed a grave and long-term danger to Iraq and other countries.“We have reports that many of these children are disappearing and that al Qa’eda wants to bring them up as a new generation that will be indoctrinated from birth and will be extremely loyal to its cause,” said Jamil Dawar, an official with Noor, a non-governmental organisation that provides help to hundreds of women who were married off to foreign militants.“I believe that is al Qa’eda’s purpose, and it is a huge problem. It is not just a problem for these children and their mothers. It is a problem for Iraq, and the entire international community. Something must be done.”Read the full story here.Click here for comments.

  • Turkey Approves Muslim Prayer Service In Armenian Church. The Turkish government has decided to allow the country's leading ultranationalist party to hold a Muslim religious service in a medieval Armenian church. The opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) announced earlier this week its intention to rally supporters for a Friday prayer at the 11th century Holy Virgin Cathedral in Ani, the ruined capital of a medieval Armenian kingdom located in Turkey's northeastern Kars region. The party had asked regional authorities and the Ankara government for permission.Built in 1001, the Ani cathedral(The Holy Virgin Cathedral)was one of the largest churches of medieval Armenia. It is now one of the few surviving examples of the ancient Armenian civilization that existed in what is now eastern Turkey until the World War I-era mass killings and deportations of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire.According to official Turkish sources, the church was converted into a mosque after much of Armenia was seized by the Seljuk Turks in the late 11th century. • White House: Obama did not send letter to Netanyahu.A researcher with ties to Dennis Ross published an article on Wednesday saying that Obama sent a letter to Netanyahu offering U.S. guarantees in exchange for a two month settlement freeze extension. It is not clear, however, whether Obama could have made the offer via means other than a letter.Earlier on Thursday, Palestinian negotiator Nabil Shaath said that U.S.special envoy to the Middle East George Mitchell denied that Obama made such an offer to Netanyahu. An article published on Wednesday on the website for the Washington Institute for Near East Policy by David Makovsky, a researcher with ties to Dennis Ross, Barack Obama's chief advisor on the Middle East, reported that Obama had written a letter Netanyahu in which Obama offered to support the presence of Israel Defense Forces soldiers in the Jordan Valley even after the establishment of a Palestinian state, if Israel would agree to a two month settlement building freeze.Netanyahu was reportedly inclined to reject the offer.Obama's letter was said to include a long list of American favors in exchange for an extension of the settlement building freeze, which ended this week. Most of these favors are critical to Israel's strategic security needs that Netanyahu has been demanding for years.Brodenstein adds that Mr. Obama also threatens that if his offer is not accepted that the U.S. will make what he terms a major gesture to the Palestinians damaging Israel: formally taking the stand that the final borders should be based on the '67 lines with adjustments.Hmmmm.....the road to Hell is paved with empty promises.Read the full story here.Click here for comments.

  • HT:Bluecollar.Interesting: 9/11 Hard Hat Pledge Founder Calls on NYC to Investigate Missing GZM Construction Permits.Andy Sullivan, founder of the 9/11 Hard Hat Pledge was an eyewitness to the World Trade Center attacks. After seeing the first plane hit he successfully evacuated all of his construction crew. His one regret from that day is “not knowing that the first girl I ever loved was working at Cantor Fitzgerald. I could have saved her.”Andy has been researching the building permits for the proposed Ground Zero Mosque. According to Mr. Sullivan’s research, “that building is being illegally occupied. You cannot issue any type of Certificate of Occupancy either permanent or temporary without an inspection of the premises.” During the 9/11 terrorist attacks the building was damaged when the landing gear from one of planes landed on it causing damage. “Work has been done on that site since 9/11, yet there is no record of inspection since this work was completed, ” says Sullivan. Without the necessary permits and inspections Mr. Sullivan states that “No one can be sure that this building that is illegally being used to hold services is safe. There are real concerns for the safety of those occupying this building illegally.”According to Sullivan, in order for this site to meet Department of Building requirements, “all work done without permits has to be taken down and removed. They need to start over from scratch under the strict supervision of the DOB.” Sullivan wonders why the DOB is ignoring the lack of proper permits.“This site would be shut down if it was any other entity in the this city. • Palestinian mental patients get hysterectomies.Muslim law permits parents to remove uteruses of mentally ill girls to protect family from shame.A debate held by a Palestinian radio station has revisited the issue of female mutilation, with interviewed parents saying they prefer to perform hysterectomies on mentally ill girls in order to prevent them from becoming impregnated. But the procedure is known to be performed in order to allay fears of embarrassment by a similarly ill offspring, and has been sanctioned to this end by both Sharia and the Palestinian Authority."We can't follow the girls around 24 hours a day, and we worry that they will be sexually assaulted, so we prefer to cut out their wombs," one parent told a radio station belonging to the Ma'an news agency.Female Palestinian MP Dr. Sahar Al Qawasmi agreed that there is a legal problem, and said a hysterectomy does nothing to defend the girl but rather serves only to protect her family from the shame and embarrassment incurred in Muslim society by a mentally ill family member."If our will is to protect the disabled or mentally ill, we must worsen the punishment against those who would attack her," Dr. Qawasmi said."If we must cut out the girl's womb, why do we not chop off body parts from disabled boys? The hysterectomy makes her the victim of a rape as well as of punishment, and the lack of punishment for her assailant."Read the full story here.Click here for comments.

  • Irony Alert in Seattle: Hijab and Burqa Clad Women Protest Ayaan Hirsi Ali Speech on Islam’s Oppression of Women. It was the type of scene you don’t see everyday in Seattle: Some three dozen Islamic women in cloaks and veils descended on Town Hall last night to wave pickets and pass out fliers. They were there to protest the appearance of Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the controversial Somali émigré who’s been speaking out against Islamic fundamentalism and oppression of women.“We don’t want hate speech here,” said Entisar Ibrahim, one of the protesters, her black hijab revealing only her eyes. But when asked exactly how Hirsi Ali was a “virulently Islamaphobic bigot,” as the fliers labeled the visiting author, Ibrahim couldn’t say.At least one woman coming into Town Hall for the talk seemed confused by the branding of Hirsi Ali. “I thought she was a Muslim woman,” the audience member said. Not exactly. Answering questions from the audience and World Affairs Council CEO Ian Moncaster, a very Western-looking Hirsi Ali, in leather boots and a cowl-neck sweater, described herself as a “dissident of Islam.” She certainly didn’t promote violence against Muslims. But she did put forward the deeply contentious idea that Islam was simply incompatible with modernity and feminism. Moderates who yearned for spirituality were better off converting to Christianity. (Judaism could work too, she said, but the Jews stubbornly refuse to proselytize.)As for the protesters outside, she said, "I welcome them in the room." She said she'd like to directly ask them about a passage in Islamic doctrine that counsels husbands to beat their wives.I for one salute her courage!Read the full story here.Click here for comments.

  • Video Hints at Executions by Pakistanis.ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — An Internet video showing men in Pakistani military uniforms executing six young men in civilian clothes has heightened concerns about unlawful killings by Pakistani soldiers supported by the United States, American officials said. The authenticity of the five-and-a-half-minute video, which shows the killing of the six men — some of whom appear to be teenagers, blindfolded, with their hands bound behind their backs — has not been formally verified by the American government. The Pakistani military said it was faked by militants. But American officials, who did not want to be identified because of the explosive nature of the video, said it appeared to be credible, as did retired American military officers and intelligence analysts who have viewed it.After viewing the graphic video on Wednesday, an administration official said: “There are things you can fake, and things you can’t fake. • HT:BigPeace.FALLOUT: ‘Plugs had to be pulled on our system’ to clear Hamas operative to tour Top-Secret NCTC, ‘The NCTC has Kifah Mustapha on the highest watch list we have’.The fallout continues in response to my Big Peace article filed on Monday concerning a known Hamas operative and unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terrorism finance trial in U.S. history who was given a VIP tour of the top-secret National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) and the FBI training center at Quantico as part of a six-week FBI Citizen Academy arranged by the FBI Chicago Field Office. Now a Homeland Security official (requesting anonymity for fear of retaliation by superiors) has contacted Big Peace saying that “the plugs had to be pulled on our system” in order to allow Kifah Mustapha to enter the NCTC and that “the NCTC has Kifah Mustapha on the highest watch list we have. • Locked and Loaded: The Secret World of Extreme Militias.Camouflaged and silent, the assault team inched toward a walled stone compound for more than five hours, belly-crawling the last 200 yards. The target was an old state prison in eastern Ohio, and every handpicked member of Red Team 2 knew what was at stake: The year is 2014, and a new breed of neo-Islamic terrorism is rampant in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio ... The current White House Administration is pro-Muslim and has ordered a stand-down against Islamic groups. The mission: Destroy the terrorist command post — or die trying. The fighters must go in "sterile" — without name tags or other identifying insignia — as a deniable covert force. "Anyone who is caught or captured cannot expect extraction," the briefing officer said.A top FBI counterterrorism official says the bureau's "biggest concern" is "the individual who has done the training, has the capability but is disenchanted with the group's action — or in many cases, inaction — and decides he's going to act alone." A high-ranking DHS official added that "it's almost impossible to find that needle in a haystack," even if the FBI has an informant in the group. James Cavanaugh, who recently retired from a senior post at the ATF and took part in some of the bloodiest confrontations with the radical right in the 1990s, says the creation of monsters in their midst is the greatest danger posed by organized groups. The ceaseless talk of federal aggression — and regular training to repel it — "becomes a hysteria where you constantly, constantly practice and nothing happens," he says. "Now most of them wouldn't go out offensively, O.K.? But generally why they're dangerous is that some people can't stand that rhetoric and just wait for it to happen. And they go off the rails, à la McVeigh.Seems like they have dropped Israel and are now focusing the American soil? • Ayodhya Judgement: Babri Masjid divided between Muslims and Hindus. The Allahabad High Court today ruled, by majority, that the disputed area of the Babri Masjid Mosque, demolished December 6, 1992 by Hindu extremists, will be divided into three between Muslims and Hindus. The decision appears aimed at mitigating high tension in the country, but risks triggering major conflicts in the future. The Hindus will be able to maintain the prefabricated small temple built on the main body of demolished mosque, where an idol of Ram was found long ago. Another group of Hindus and a Islamic group will manage two other parts of the mosque. The long anticipated ruling was greet amid heightened tensions: over 200 thousand police officers were deployed to monitor possible targets of violence. • HT:TheDailyBeast.Stop Trashing Teachers!Obama’s misguided policies and the overhyped doc Waiting For Superman have turned America against its teachers. Education expert Diane Ravitch on why the vitriol is so dangerous. For the past week, the national media has launched an attack on American public education that is unprecedented in our history. NBC devoted countless hours to panels stacked with "experts" who believe that public education is horrible because it has so many "bad" teachers and "bad" principals. The same "experts" appeared again and again to call for privatization, breaking teachers' unions, and mass firings of "bad" educators. Oprah devoted two shows to the same voices. The movie Waiting for Superman, possibly the most ballyhooed documentary of all time, explains patiently that poor test scores are caused by bad teachers, that bad teachers are protected for life by their unions, and that the answer to our terrible test scores is privatization. If only we fire enough teachers every year, goes the oft-repeated claim, our national test scores will soar to meet those of Finland, the highest scoring nation.Read the full story here.Click here for comments.

  • Today in Assassination News . . . There has been much discussion lately of the legal questions surrounding the Obama administration’s plan to assassinate U.S. citizen Anwar al-Awlaki, an al-Qaeda goon, Islamist propagandist, and general bum. The Christian Science Monitor has a pretty good discussion here, arguing that the Nuremberg and Tokyo trials established a “gold standard” for governments’ conduct, and makes a due-process argument as well. Glenn Greenwald remarks on the lawsuit brought by Awlaki’s father and the state-secret aspects of the case here. For what it’s worth, the Nuremberg template seems inappropriate to me; Awlaki is not a agent of a government or a member of a regular army, and there is no reason to charge him with “war crimes” when he could be charged with regular old crimes. But that’s neither here nor there.Read the full story here.Click here for comments.

  • Native Indians and cigarettes: the tension is building.Native Indians and cigarettes: the tension is building. On August 27th, I spoke about the plan of Governor Patterson to enforce cigarette tax laws on Native American Indian tribes. In that discussion, it was noted that NYC Mayor Bloomberg stated that "the governor should act like a cowboy with a shotgun and enforce the state tax law.”This is in addition to my understanding that, according to what the Gov. was proposing, a violation of the 4th Amendment was under way. Which says nothing of the potential for violence that occured when similar plans were proposed when Gov. Cuomo in 1992 and Gov. Pataki in 1997 tried to enact a similar law.On Sept 1st, the courts halted the tax grab that Gov. Patterson envisioned filling State coffers. Seperately federal Judge Lawrence Kahn blocked action until a hearing could be had on Sept 23rd. There is another injunction until Oct. 15th.Read the full story here.Click here for comments.
